Fascinating story, bad narration

Learning about the utterly sociopathic protagonist was fascinating, but I had to look up the narrator to convince me that she wasn't an AI voice. I've never heard a narrator who has no sense of inflection. She just reads without making any effort to understand what's being conveyed. She also mispronounces so many common words it's laughable. If you can handle the narration, go for it.

What an author

I read The Great Gatsby as an immature 20 year old. Now on the cusp of 70, re-reading this classic has been remarkably enriching. I especially admire Fitzgerald's ability to capture the inner character of people in a few carefully chosen phrases. Highly recommended.

Ugh, What A Letdown

I love Rebecca and thought I'd at least enjoy this novel. But it's a story of a young woman who, though free as a bird, chooses life with an abusive, indifferent lover. Made me what to reach through my headphones and shake her. Icing on the cake: the narrator's attempt at women's voices is just pathetic. They all sound like cartoon children. Do yourself a favor and just say no.

Unpopular Opinion

Im a big fan of 19th century British literature. Yet, though I've tried and tried, I just can't stomach Bronté. it's all high drama, self-absorbed characters, and dysfunctional relationships. I love Ms Frogge, but her reading revealed a consistent lack of comprehension that disappointed. If you love the Kathy and Heathcliff, ignore this review and dive in, with my blessing. The rest of you, you've been warned.

This was my first but definitely not my last John Green book. What a gorgeous, perceptive writer. Each essay is a love poem to the earth, to life, to the fabulous miracles and the undeniable pains of being human in a world that's not quite ready for us.

Beautifully Written and Performed

I thought I'd lost interest in following the Windsors, didn't expect to enjoy this book much. I was wrong. Honest, raw in places, and full of love and longing, Harry's memoir is a story you won't find anywhere else. Recommended.

My husband and I both loved this book. Krakauer, an articulate writer and faithful researcher, pulls no punches in his examination of the peculiar history of "The American Church" and the many splinter groups it has spawned. At the same time, his narrative exhibits empathy--even a dollop of admiration-- for its people.
