Historia
Sage Winters always knew her sister was a little different even though they were identical twins. They loved the same things and shared a deep understanding, but Rosemary—awake to every emotion, easily moved to joy or tears—seemed to need more protection from the world. Six years after Rosemary's death from pneumonia, Sage, now sixteen, still misses her deeply. Their mother perished in a car crash, and Sage's stepfather, Alan, resents being burdened by a responsibility he never wanted.

Save yourselves!
Revisado: 04-26-24
Way too much excrement (we get it—there was a lot!) and not enough plot until near the end, where it became very far-fetched. There were a couple of big holes in the plot which I can’t describe here without spoilers.

Historia
Laurie is sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend: the man from the bus.

Fun Christmas read!
Revisado: 12-17-23
This is not a typical selection for me, but I decided to listen to it the holidays. It really was a fun ride. It reminded me a little of Bridget Jones and I was very invested on how it would turn out. I couldn’t wait to know what would happen. I also appreciate that it’s a good length, not one of those light-weights that’s over almost as soon as it’s started.

Historia
When two Union soldiers stumble onto a plantation in northern Georgia on a warm May day in 1864, the last thing they expect is to see the Union flag flying high - or to be greeted by a group of freed slaves and their Jewish mistress. Little do they know that this place has an unusual history. Twelve years prior, Adelaide Mannheim - daughter of Mordecai, the only Jewish planter in the county - was given her own maid, a young slave named Rachel. The two became friends, and soon they discovered a secret.

Complex, nuanced, and thought-provoking
Revisado: 06-19-23
Yes, it is uncomfortable to hear the N word. And some will find any positive experience in the life of an enslaved person to be “romanticizing slavery.” For others, any decent—though certainly flawed—white person is a “white savior” trope, even though there are plenty of evil white characters. Others will object to the imperfection of that white character. The reviews are full of opinions that the book is either too nice or too ugly. This tension is what makes “Sister of Mine” great literature! It is extremely well researched and written art imitating life. The narration is also excellent. There is no audiobook for the sequel “Let Me Fly” so I will have to break form and read it in print because I will be reading everything by this author!

England, 1835. London is awash with thrilling new ingredients, from rare spices to exotic fruits. But no one knows how to use them. When Eliza Acton is told by her publisher to write a cookery book instead of the poetry she loves, she refuses - until her bankrupt father is forced to flee the country. As a woman, Eliza has few options. Although she’s never set foot in a kitchen, she begins collecting recipes and teaching herself to cook. Much to her surprise, she discovers a talent - and a passion - for the culinary arts.

So good!
Revisado: 10-20-22
I have never left a review because taste (no pun intended) is so individual, but I’m moved to do so in this case because this book was a delightful surprise. I thought the food aspect would be interesting but feared it would be light on plot. I’m happy to say I was wrong and this book kept me curious all the way to the end.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 07-26-22
Not a particularly well written book. I had no intention of leaving a bad review, but every time there is a sale, Audible suggests this author to me like she is my favorite (and she is very prolific). Given there is no other way to indicate I don’t enjoy this author, I am hoping that a low star rating will get Audible to stop pushing her on me.

Scottish romance with mystery
Revisado: 05-13-20
Overall I quite enjoyed the story and the performances. I was very intrigued by the storytelling and eager to know how the pieces were going to fit together. I really enjoyed the readers except for Uncle Findlay. What was that accent? I wish they’d asked Billy Connolly or someone who is actually Scottish!

I really enjoyed learning about this culture. I had no idea there were so many ethnic minorities in China! Plot was very compelling throughout.
