Calmes and James: A perfect pair

Mary Calmes and Tristan James once again make magic. The wonderful story is brought to life by a gifted narrator who is consistently masterful at accents and the art of subtlety. Truly they are my peanut butter and chocolate of gay romance audio book. They never disappoint.

A+++ NR Walker's wonderful storytelling with Joel Leslie's spot-on narration

Hits you right in the feels. Joel Leslie's narration is perfect. His accents are believable and consistent throughout. Found myself laughing and crying through this beautiful love story. Thank you for this wonderful piece of audible art!

If you could sum up Hidden Identity in three words, what would they be?

Gritty, Sensual, Complex

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hidden Identity?

The depth of Jimmy's relationship with his Mother speaks of his core character. The scene they share at the kitchen table in memorial to Saint Joe is a moving tribute.

What does Joel Leslie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

At times during the first half of book, the Narrator's pace was a little too fast to let the listener be enveloped into the scene. That is my only criticism, the rest of his performance is a masterful example of sustained characters with multiple dialects, genders and ages. Amazing consistency - will be added to my narrators to listen too no matter the genre.

Already purchased the other two books in the series. Can't wait to see them turned into audiobooks, hopefully with Mr. Leslie at the mic.

Sweet Contemporary Love Story - Perfect for Teens

What made the experience of listening to Crossing the Ice the most enjoyable?

The story brought me back to my teen years and the phenomenon that was Ice Castles. This contemporary view of the competitive world of ice skating. All the tantalizing components are there: evil villain, spunky heroine, shy creative boy etc. This series is an excellent addition to YA genre.

Have you listened to any of Emily Stokes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Emily Stokes does an excellent job with the various characters from toddlers to Russian coaches. The pacing was perfect adding to the build of the plot. I would like to another of her performances.

This book is PG rated. No hot, steamy love scenes so be confident in gifting to younger readers.

Interesting Premise. Short in world building.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I enjoyed the authors characters. There was a nice blend of drama and humor.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The love scenes would have been more effective if they had kept the contemporary flavor. The language was too flowery. The world building was weak. After stating the futuristic premise of a post nuclear apocalypse two thousand years in the future, I was disappointed that the day-to-day items and routines were distinctly present day.

What does Meghan Kelly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms. Kelly does an admirable job of keeping the character voices distinct and consistent. Her southern accents were adorable and her masculine voice for the male lead was perfect. Made me a little weak in the knees. A reaction that only a few female narrator's generate.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. The pace of the narration, especially the first half, was a little to fast for me. While understanding wasn't the problem, the speed didn't allow me to visually paint the scene in my imagination. It was just a couple clicks faster than a conversational pace (especially for those southern characters if you know what I mean).

Overall an enjoyable listen. I did receive a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
