Historia
Nimah may have been born a RIM-rat, a hardscrabble kid from the far reaches of the galaxy, but now that she's a well-respected cadet at the prestigious STARS military academy, she's put her past behind her. Or so she thinks, until her future is obliterated by the return of her infamous space pirate grandmother, who abandoned her at a barren outpost fifteen years ago, and is accused of setting off a bomb at the millennial summit for United Planetary Nation leaders.

A nicely paced space heist story, with some great characters and a good bit of camp. The narrator is a key factor - her voice feels perfectly matched for this story and these characters. She brings the story to life beautifully.

Masterful narration kicks off an exciting series
Revisado: 12-27-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Theft of Swords to be better than the print version?
Definitely! This is an excellent book with good world-building and interesting characters, so it's worth your time regardless of the format. Tim's reading is fantastic though, and really brings the well-crafted characters to life.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Theft of Swords?
There is a section where Royce and Hadrian are accosted by thieves, and they calmly critique the thieves' technique while offering pointers. It's very amusing and helps to frame later interactions.
Which character – as performed by Tim Gerard Reynolds – was your favorite?
Hadrian was my favorite. Tim does a great job of portraying Hadrian's jovial demeanor, which always stands out next to the appropriately dour-sounding Royce.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed out loud at a number of points in this book. Some of the funny moments would have had me laughing even if I was reading the text, but Tim Gerard Reynolds certainly amplified the humor through his skilled narration.
Any additional comments?
This was an excellent book to split time listening and reading. Tim Gerard Reynolds was such a great narrator that I heard his voice in my head even while reading the text. I enjoyed alternating between the audio and text formats, so I could hear the world brought to life and also learn the spellings of names and places. I've recently learned that Tim reads the second part of a series I've just started (Hugh Howey's Silo Series). I was already excited to continue that series, but the opportunity to hear more from Tim has me even more pumped up.

Historia
This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

Excellent story with uneven narration
Revisado: 12-27-13
What made the experience of listening to Wool Omnibus Edition (Wool 1 - 5) the most enjoyable?
The story does an excellent job of describing life in the silo, so it is easy to put yourself in that setting and begin to think from the characters' perspectives.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Wool Omnibus Edition (Wool 1 - 5)?
This moment contains a spoiler.
The dangerous expedition to pump water out of the flooded lower levels of Silo 17 was very well done and memorable.Sure, the character probably should have made better choices so this scene never happened. It was well done regardless.
Did Minnie Goode do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I would have preferred it if Minnie did not attempt to differentiate the characters. Most of the male voices felt forced, and even some of the female voices were a bit jarring. I got somewhat used to it over the course of the book, but still found myself leaning toward the text rather than the audio when it was practical.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This moment contains a spoiler.
Watching Allison's detective work lead her to the wrong conclusion about IT was quite moving. The story of Allison and Holston set the bar high for the rest of the book.
Any additional comments?
Wool did a lot of things well - describing life in the silo, creating a culture and explaining the reasons behind it, revealing surprising truths and showing -why- they were surprising.
There were some elements of the story I did not enjoy as much - a love story that I didn't care much for, and a bit of "horror movie logic" (you're an intelligent character, what the hell are you thinking here?). Luckily I felt that any weaknesses were far outweighed by the good parts of the story.
There are two ways I tend to measure audiobooks. When I'm reading a book, do I stay up late to keep reading or look for excuses to keep listening? When I'm finished, do I continue to think about the story? With Wool, I say Yes to both. I'm very excited to continue reading and listening to the series.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

'Not my kind of story' I said...
Revisado: 07-23-13
What made the experience of listening to Beautiful Ruins the most enjoyable?
Edoardo Ballerini's skill with different characters' voices is fantastic. He deftly switches between English and Italian, convincingly portraying various accents and mannerisms.
What did you like best about this story?
The author's ability to weave an effective story through multiple times and locations.
What does Edoardo Ballerini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The pronunciation of Italian words and phrases is the most obvious element I would have missed. I also enjoyed his interpretations of broken English and poorly pronounced Italian, as spoken by characters unskilled in those languages.
Any additional comments?
I kept coming across recommendations for this book and dismissing them. Each time, I would read the description and think "that book is not my style, I'll pass." But then I had some extra Audible credits to burn and decided to give it a shot. It's not the sort of book I typically read, but I'm glad I picked it up. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
