Historia
The ruthless mafia king is no stranger to violence, but when he lays his eyes on my bruised and battered face, he's furious. I thought my makeup was thick enough to cover the beating I suffered until my inappropriately flirtatious boss noticed. As a cocktail waitress in his casino, I've always been on Mr. Salvato's radar, but now he's obsessed, demanding to know who hurt me and why, intent on making them suffer.

A Bit Too Much, Poor Character Development
Revisado: 04-27-25
I knew that this book would have plenty of sexy moments, but this book had a bit too much. It seemed like the author needed to fill up some pages and did so by adding a few extra sex scenes that were not necessary to the plot.
My biggest problem with the book is the illogical character development of Vanessa. I'm trying not to spoil the story for others but Vanessa's moral character degrades just because she's found a man she wants to have sexy time with (I'm being PC about what they were doing). Vanessa completely does a 180 on her qualms regarding the lifestyle of a gangster, is ok with phentonol distribution, and even willingly exposes her child to the mob world that she's been trying to dodge for 20+ years. This behavior doesn't make sense, and makes her unlikeable.
The organized crime universe has potential, but I can't continue with the series due to the unlikeable characters.

Historia
Surviving a werewolf attack should’ve been the strangest thing to happen to me tonight. But no, the universe had other plans. Now, I’m stuck dealing with a broodingly hot guy named Wesley St. John—who seems way too comfortable with murder. Definitely a red flag, right? Wes isn’t just some guy I stumbled upon—he’s a protector, but not the friendly kind. His job is to keep the supernatural world in check, and my ignorance is making things complicated.

Stupid Teen Logic, Poor Narration
Revisado: 04-27-25
I must have missed the YA label in the description. You have a 17 year old girl who constantly complains about not being treated like an adult, and yet when in a dangerous situation, she purposely makes stupid decisions that puts herself and others in peril.
The other concern I have is that this 17 year old girl falls in love with a 19 year old boy. Now that's a legal trainwreck waiting to happen. The reader has to watch this relationship develop wondering if this relationship will cross the line of propriety. All the author had to do is to shift the ages to 18 and 20 to make the relationship more palatable.
The story's universe was interesting, but the author could have developed it more to make it really good. As it is now, it is missed opportunity and falls flat.
The narration was poor. There was little distinction between the characters' voices, and the acting was bad. The enjoyment of the story could have been better if the narrator didn't emphasize the poor dialog, which was sophomoric..
I couldn't wait to finish book #1, I and will return it. I bought this on sale and it's not even worth that.

Historia
What’s a witch to do when the coven of moral and ethical standards demands she untwist a curse—but an essential spell component no longer exists? There’s only one choice: go back in time. Caught between self-exile and an Alcatraz cell, Rachel must find an Atlantean mirror to reverse the curse and prove to Cincinnati’s brand-new witch coven that, no, she does not practice illicit magic. Unfortunately, the only mirror of its kind in existence belonged to the insane demon Newt, forcing Rachel to go to the past to bargain with her for it.

Good & Twisty Story
Revisado: 12-21-24
During the first couple of chapters, I was concerned that this book would not have a lot of meat to it. I was wrong. The story and the characters started to bloom into something more intriguing.
The narration was good and fit the characters.

Historia
The land has become unnaturally quiet. It's as if everyone is waiting for some sign that Xandre can be beaten. That someone will stand up to him, and win. With Shanti calling the shots, and Cayan's battle know-how, it seems certain that the Chosen can be the catalyst. That they can lead the oppressed to freedom. But Xandre didn't become the Being Supreme by chance, and he doesn't intend for his rule to be stripped away so easily.

Same story, Different book
Revisado: 12-18-24
The first half of this story reads so much like the others. There's some new action that takes place in the second half, but that is not enough incentive for me to continue the series.
The narrator uses similar voices for several characters, which makes it difficult to differentiate who is whom.

You will find a very similar plot layout to that of the Rose Gardner series. In that respect the book is predictable. It's a good read, but not a great one. Narration is good.

Overall, Good
Revisado: 10-20-24
This book was a bit slow until the end. However, it does open up to a new story arc, which will be interesting.
I'm disappointed with the narrator because she changes the pronunciation of Hassan, after saying the name one way during 8 previous books.

Rescued from mauling by the Hammer of God himself, transformed into one of the most skilled weres in the world, stepping from impoverishment to fame and fortune, and destined to become partner to the most powerful witch ever. Revisado: 09-30-24
As the title states, there is very little new story information. The narrator is not good at creating distinctive voices, so the storytelling is very blah! I do not know why they didn't use the original MALE actor to star as the female lead. That statement should tell you how bad this narrator was.
