Compelling story. Horrible narration.
Revisado: 04-02-25
I’ve enjoyed the series up to now, but all dialogue is delivered as though the characters are yelling at each other in growling angry voices… constantly. Is this supposed to add suspense? Absolutely abysmal. I finished it and it got slightly better. But what a sad change of narrator in this series. Poorly poorly performed.

Ok but not up to par
Revisado: 02-13-25
The stories were OK. I wasn’t intrigued by them or particularly interested, but they were OK. Narration was a nightmare. The narrators accent or intonation was very unpleasant and difficult to listen to. Will avoid her in the future.

Instead, she finds a body in the orchard… Kitty is shocked to discover Titus Blake dead, crushed by his own cider press.

I’ve enjoyed this series but the ending was oddly contrived and didn’t make sense from a motivational standpoint.

Historia
Scotland, 1912: When Maud and Daisy travel to Clachan Castle on the Isle of Mull to investigate the theft of a valuable statuette, at first the case seems straightforward. But when their prime suspect, bad-tempered fellow guest Mr Tremain, is found dead in his bed, the detective duo realise the castle is under attack… At first, it appears the murder is impossible. All the doors and windows to the room were locked from the inside, and there was no way for the killer to escape.

Historia
History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

A year has passed since Elizabeth Bates ran her last con. Life has been simpler, although not nearly as exciting, but she has thrown herself into working to get the 19th Amendment ratified by thirty-six states to become the law of the land. Since every other Southern state has already rejected the amendment, it seems unlikely Tennessee will be an exception … but it's their only hope, so the suffragists descend on Tennessee for the final battle. Elizabeth’s ability to interact with difficult men and to persuasively explain all the advantages of allowing women to vote.

A well researched somewhat enjoyable history lesson
Revisado: 05-11-24
I’ve struggled with the flexible morality of these main characters, even as I’ve enjoyed the story telling.
For those who don’t know how very difficult it was for women to gain the simple right to vote we have had for only about 100 years, it’s a must read.
Our rights are so fragile.

In early 1925, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher - recent mother of twins - resumes her journalistic career by agreeing to write a piece about the Tower of London - the Bloody Tower - for an American magazine. Invited to observe the centuries-old ritual Ceremony of the Keys, she's spending the night (her first time away from her babies), since the complex is locked and guarded, and the high walls are surrounded by a disused moat.

Cute stories. Obnoxious narrator
Revisado: 01-28-24
I’ve enjoyed this series, but far prefer the narration of Bernadette Dunn. This narrator, Lucy Rayner, performs women with such unbelievably shrill, nasal voices that it is nearly ear splitting. The mysteries are cute if not logical but I’m not sure I can take one more chapter of this performance.

Sea Isle was supposed to be the fresh start Dr. Emilia McRoy dreamed of. Far from the busy emergency room across the Atlantic in Seattle, she hoped to settle down and begin this new chapter as a small-town doctor to the quirky residents who immediately welcomed her. When she stumbles across a dead body, she starts to think that she may not be as Scot free of the drama and intrigue as she initially thought.
