Historia
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

Worth a credit
Revisado: 07-16-24
This is a fun, charming, cozy book; it’s an easy listen. Its humor made me smile in parts and chuckle out loud on occasion. The book has been nice company during dog walks and chores. I definitely recommend it; it’s a feel good book. The only part that bothered me was the voice of two year old Emma, it doesn’t seem right for her age.

Historia
Becky still adores the traditions of Christmas: Her parents host, carols play on repeat, her mother pretends she made the Christmas pudding, and the neighbors come ’round for sherry in their terrible holiday sweaters. Things are looking cheerier than ever, until Becky’s parents announce they’re moving to ultra-trendy Shoreditch - unable to resist the draw of craft beer and smashed avocados - and ask Becky if she’ll host this year. What could possibly go wrong?

Just annoying
Revisado: 12-06-20
Tried to listen to this two or three times. Made it to about chapter 8. I just continually found myself annoyed by the protagonist. I can’t see that anything could happen that would make me care about her.

Historia
You are a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail: Your boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. You can't say yes - it would be too awkward - and you can't say no - it would look like defeat. On your desk are a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world. Question: How do you arrange to skip town? Answer: You accept them all.

Woe is me
Revisado: 08-14-20
Since this book had so many positive reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. I say "meh". Woe is me story with some introspection, tied up nicely at the end. Not particularly interesting for me. But I'm in the minority.

Thoughtful
Revisado: 08-04-20
Glad that audible escape has a thoughtful book, not just the typical romance. Although some might write it off as a depressing book, there were many points that had me chuckling. Maybe you have to be “of a certain age” to appreciate this book.

Distracting Narration
Revisado: 07-26-20
I found the narration annoying. The story line was cute. This is a beach read, not something you need to really think about while you listen.

Just the typical Audible Escape story. It's just ok. Irritating when the narrator mispronounces locations.

Maybe the storyline is ok but the writing just isn’t good and the odd, stilted narration is no help. Skip it.

Should have skipped
Revisado: 05-18-20
Of the series, this is by far the worst. I should have just skipped it. I didn’t care for the narrator and the story just didn’t seem to have enough body or reasonable storyline.

Not bad
Revisado: 12-30-19
Overall, it’s okay. The daughter subplot is contrived and unnecessary. It’s good enough to listen to while running errands or doing chores around the house. Better than some of the others I’ve listened to fr9m audible escape.
