Historia
In order to protect his loved ones, the mage Arthur Leywin must reveal the truth of his identity. If he is to fulfill his role in the war between the godlike asuras and the demonic Vritra, he must leave those he hopes to protect and travel to the land of deities and dragons. First, however, he must escape. Arthur stands before the kings and queens of Dicathen, accused of a crime he did not commit. It will take an act of the gods to save him from having his magic stripped away, leaving him powerless in the war to come. Fortunately for Arthur, he can count the gods among his friends.

I cant anymore
Revisado: 10-10-24
There's a lot to like in this series, but the main character is becoming more and more difficult to empathize with. The author seems to be doing all of the possible mental gymnastics he can to prevent any kind of emotional growth or true relationship building possible. This may just be a matter of taste, but the dangling carrot gets old as hell, and I find myself genuinely cringing any time we get a POV from one of Arthur's "peers". Sadly, I think I'm done.

The surface world is a strange place for a young man who grew up in hell. Darren was just a boy when he and his mother were betrayed by paladins and chased beneath the Earth. There, with only his paladin's sigil and his quests to guide him, Darren grew from boy to man. Born in fire and blood, hell itself sculpted the perfect paladin.

genuinely sweet, funny, and well written
Revisado: 11-13-23
I gotta be honest, the cover made me ignore this one for quite a while. Good stories in this genre are a bit fewer and farther in between than the proliferation might have you believe, though, so a couple recommendations had me revisit the author.
Boy am I glad I did.
This book is a bit silly on its face, white knight goes on quests to save the world from both good and evil blah blah blah, but the characters are so vivid and fun that the "same old same old" feeling never quite sets in. Darren is a bit of a ridiculous protagonist and a Gary Stu of the highest order (pun intended), but the world building is top notch and character arcs are just intensive enough to make the whole thing a blast. I don't know if I'd classify Marvin Knight as quite on the same level as Cebelius or KD Robertson, but he's damn close and that's a major compliment.

Ruling over the island and their capital city should have been an easy job: one where they would have eyes on the back of their heads, as not all problems were resolved with the Orthodox. But when a certain young woman comes into Raiden's life, nothing will ever be the same. Not for him, and not for his girls. Thrust into a situation where Rai finds himself between a rock and a hard place, he has to come to terms both with himself, his wives, his twins, and everything life had offered him - both the good and the bad.

it's like... really bad
Revisado: 07-25-23
The first book wasn't written very well, but it had an interesting world and some neat characters and concepts. This one just shits all over the marginally good and expounds on the horrendously bad. There's no sense of continuity even from within the same chapter. No one seems to remember what they've talked about within the same conversation, and I don't think the author even knows the broadest of strokes regarding his own story.
on top of that, the MC has gone from good hearted bastard to full-on douche material. he has no sense of respect for anyone or anything - especially the people who he supposedly cares for. When he whored his own wife out to his sister for what was in no uncertain terms a genuinely horrific rape I just about tossed my phone in the garbage.

Life doesn't always go according to plan. For ex-CIA Agent Samuel Caulfield, his plans were ripped out from under him after a chance encounter in a firefight. One deal with a dark goddess later, and he's cast into the trenches of a Victorian world, with clashing empires, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, and more. Surrounded by death, on the front lines of a war without intelligence, he'll have to rely on his wits, his platoon, and a surprise gift from his goddess.

Truly a stand out start for a promising author
Revisado: 06-22-23
Extremely well paced, believable, and a fantastic world-building experience. I found the love stories to be reasonable and genuinely sweet, the MC was a hero that makes it easy to want to see succeed (frustratingly rare in this genre). Great military fiction even without taking the subgenres into consideration. Highly recommend.

Won't win any literary awards, and doesn't quite manage to stack up to the very best in the genre, but a very fun read. as always, Dan and Rebecca play flawless characters and their voices are top notch.

Frustrating
Revisado: 12-10-22
The first book was a masterpiece that contained a heart and soul that was pleasant at nearly every step. Even when the action lulled and the story dragged it was enjoyable just to experience the characters and their growing relationships. This book maintained the mechanical aspects of good writing, but unfortunately robs us of any of those initial, wonderful character interaction. While the overarching storyline is still interesting enough that I will continue the series, I must say that this particular chapter was mildly diverting at best, and a slog at worst.
I desperately hope the next in this series is more enjoyable than this one was.
The narrators were effective at reading the material, but a bit wooden this time around. Again, I'd like to hear both of them explore character voices a bit more, and hope that Nadia sounds like she's capable of feeling anything other than exhaustion next time around.

like, soooo good
Revisado: 12-07-22
this book is deceptively well written, with slow burn love stories that feel both genuine and compelling. the remount of emotion put into the slowly revealed history is also something that feels well earned, and although it never quite surprises the reader, its all still based on such a solid foundation that you never feel cheated or coddled by the writing style.
The narrator is quite good from a storytelling perspective and has a voice that's pleasant to listen too. I hope he gains some confidence moving forward, though, and starts working on his character voices - it can be hard to differentiate who is talking and when.

Fantastic installment of an amazing series
Revisado: 04-15-22
This sort of book is my guilty pleasure. Most of them are fairly mediocre, from a literary standpoint, but this series transcends that rule. Yes, there are naughty bits. Yes, it's a harem novel. More than that, though, is how deep the concepts and philosophies this world has been built on run. Everything about this series is damn near perfect, and the only thing I dislike is that now I have to wait for the next one.

And roving packs of vicious demons. Most dangerous of all: Alaria's tendency to bed every hot chick she sees. Drama ensues and the couple's future is in question, when in walks the most beautiful angel Ian's ever laid eyes on. Literally. She has wings, a halo, the whole bit. Can a sex demoness and a holy roller learn to get along? Relationships. Sometimes they're heaven…sometimes they're hell.

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 02-27-22
In the previous books the Mc was fairly relatable. His insecurities were understandable, and his reactions were clearly based on reality. Everything he did seemed to fall within reason, and nothing fell outside of those parameters.
This book? he went from relatable to a colossal douche real quick. the remainder of the book was extremely difficult to finish given what am asshole he was as. I understand that was the point, but that do any make it any less of a slog. hopefully we're through this but and the rest of the series can get back to being an enjoyable ride.

As one of the downtrodden in Eden’s Meadow, TJ has led a life of scraping by as best he could. With little more to his name than a winning smile, his life takes a turn for the interesting as he befriends Serina, a rebellious young woman among the godlike Devas that control his realm. Being a test subject for her magic seems innocent enough, even if she occasionally tinkers with things she shouldn’t.

Revisado: 01-07-22
There's some irony in the fact that Stephanie Savannah just happens to be the narrator for both of the best series in this genre (check out Heretic Spellblade if you haven't already). I was more than pleasantly surprised to find this book to be equally well written and enjoyable to that series. Joe Kuster is a true master storyteller, and I'm very excited to move on to the next book in this series.
