Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Our Hamilton
Revisado: 05-02-23
Chernow once again works his skill so that by the end of the story you are ( most likely ) deeply sympathetic with Hamilton. He is not just the ' guy on the 10$ Bill. Bringing to life a story and place in time that absolutely should be understood. There is so much history and information here, but the investment of your time should be well worth it.

An interesting perspective
Revisado: 03-13-23
Chernow gives a version of President Washington's life and legacy with such interesting and often intimate details that by the last chapter you are hopelessly compassionate for the General, the President, and the man himself.

It's Great
Revisado: 02-18-23
I think it does a good job of referencing original sources. Also it is fair in estimation that there is a lot of guess work and imagination that goes in to filling the blanks of history. If we only had Ptolemy's manuscript of first hand encounters throughout these campaigns what a treasure it would be , however we are left with what Arrian gleaned from it in The Anabasis of Alexander the Great. It is so strange to contemplate the idea that the high majority of our history is in actuality Historical Fiction. Lastly, we see now that Alexander the Great was not the only one in history to make the mistake of going in to those Afghanistan mountains ...

Historia
The Scythians were nomadic horsemen who ranged wide across the grasslands of the Asian steppe from the Altai mountains in the east to the Great Hungarian Plain in the first millennium BC. Their steppe homeland bordered on a number of sedentary states to the south and there were, inevitably, numerous interactions between the nomads and their neighbours. The Scythians fought the Persians on a number of occasions, in one battle killing their king and on another occasion driving the invading army of Darius the Great from the steppe.

Historia
The rise of Rome is one of the great stories of world history and fortunately we have a reliable and at times an eyewitness account, from the Greek historian Polybius of Megalopolis. Polybius reports on the main confrontations with the authority of a man who was present at many events and also visited historic sites of importance to ensure his accounts of the past were accurate.

Tedious, But Absolutely Worth It
Revisado: 10-16-22
The Main Points here being the Punic Wars. And very interesting, Pre Punic Wars Skirmishes. The intricacies of Sicilian affairs during this period.
Moving on to the civil wars of ancient Greece, all the drama of Sparta, Athens, the Achian league and the Atolians. All of this and some very nice points to made in the affairs of the Diodocians, Macedon, Syria and Egypt.
This history is like going in to a very large buffet that is entirely up to you to consume. Allow the time for digestion and retention before moving on. There is enough material here to a history enthusiast occupied for a very, very long time.

Historia
An epic history of a doomed civilization and a lost empire. The devastating struggle to the death between the Carthaginians and the Romans was one of the defining dramas of the ancient world. In an epic series of land and sea battles, both sides came close to victory before the Carthaginians finally succumbed and their capital city, history, and culture were almost utterly erased.

Tenacious Carthage
Revisado: 08-12-22
This is a great story that she be told and heard again. Once in each season if a person had such a luxury.
Here the author and performer both do a great job. One thing that could be gleaned from this history is that Hannibal, as a General or Commander, comes out not quite so fantastic as his fame suggested, while Scipio Africanus it would seem was left somewhat underated.

Historia
In a 2017 survey, presidential historians ranked Dwight D. Eisenhower fifth on the list of great presidents, behind the perennial top four: Lincoln, Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Teddy Roosevelt. Historian William Hitchcock shows that this high ranking is justified. Eisenhower's accomplishments were enormous and loom ever larger from the vantage point of our own tumultuous times.
