Historia
Gone are the days when socially conscious parents felt comfortable teaching their children to merely tolerate others. Instead, they are looking for a way to authentically embrace the fullness of their diverse communities. A Place to Belong offers a path forward for families to honor their cultural heritage and champion diversity in the context of daily family life.

A Total Gem
Revisado: 07-04-22
This book is a complete gem, choked full of hard truths, manageable tips for change, and life giving inspo. It is about building a diverse and inclusive home through action, not lip service.
A lot of ideas the author presented made me feel uncomfortable- but the good sort of uncomfortable. The “I’ve gotten too comfortable with patting myself on the back for my work and concern. It’s time to get uncomfortable again.”
Our family has already implemented some of the ideas in the book and I’m writing more into our curriculum for the upcoming year.
As a bonus, I love listening to books read by the author - there is a special connection for the listener. Amber O’Neal Johnston leapt from my Air Buds to my heart!

Historia
Anna Deavere Smith’s extraordinary form of documentary theater shines a light on injustices by portraying the real-life people who have experienced them. In Notes from the Field, she renders a host of figures who have lived and fought the system that pushes students of color out of the classroom and into prisons.

This play was fantastic. The author/actor became each of the characters. It was deeply immersive and fascinating.
The topic of the school to prison pipeline was new to me. This play delivers the concept in a way that connects you to people. I highly recommend!

One of the most dynamic and globally recognized entertainment forces of our time opens up fully about his life, in a brave and inspiring book that traces his learning curve to a place where outer success, inner happiness, and human connection are aligned. Along the way, Will tells the story in full of one of the most amazing rides through the worlds of music and film that anyone has ever had.

Excellent from start to finish. Will Smith is an expert story teller, but his vulnerability is what makes this book. I laughed. I cried. Two thumbs way up.
