Historia
Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar.

I loved this novel about two girls set in Victorian England. It is a lovely story, well written and full of surprises and the narrator also added to my enjoyment.

Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

Frustrating listen of a real life story
Revisado: 02-14-18
Loved the narration/perfomance but this whole sordid story was so frustrating. It seemed to be more about the suspect and the abuse of his partner than about finding who murdered the French lady. Also, the repeated credits at the end of each 'chapter' was very annoying.

Historia
When a woman's body is discovered in a cathedral and hours later a young man is found hanging from a tree outside his home, Detective Lottie Parker is called in to lead the investigation. Both bodies have the same distinctive tattoo clumsily inscribed on their legs. It's clear the pair are connected, but how? The trail leads Lottie to St Angela's, a former children's home, with a dark connection to her own family history. Suddenly the case just got personal.

A great read and very different to the usual thrillers. Not predictable and it all comes together in the end. The narration was also outstanding! I cannot wait to read some more by Patricia Gibney.

Historia
This is a story about you. It is the history of who you are and how you came to be. It is unique to you, as it is for every one of the 100 billion modern humans who has ever drawn breath. But it is also our collective story, because in each of our genomes we carry the history of the whole of our species.

Better than any thriller!
Revisado: 07-01-17
A fascinating, exciting and wonderfully narrated treatise ( in a way) that reads like a novel. It's absolutely brilliant and the topic is of current interest- a book for our times!
I wish there were more of these books. The narrator could be an audible reader if he wasn't so busy investigating all these interesting genome facts. 10/10

Interesting but a bit 'flat'
Revisado: 06-06-17
I was somewhat disappointed in this book as I had high hopes for an exciting and uplifting read. It started out well but steadily became quite dull and was more like a 'dry' documentary. Perhaps something got lost in the translation.

Historia
Marie Laure lives with her father in Paris within walking distance of the Museum of Natural History where he works as the master of the locks (there are thousands of locks in the museum). When she is six, she goes blind, and her father builds her a model of their neighbourhood, every house, every manhole, so she can memorise it with her fingers and navigate the real streets with her feet and cane. When the Germans occupy Paris, father and daughter flee to Saint-Malo on the Brittany coast, where Marie-Laure's agoraphobic great uncle lives in a tall, narrow house by the sea wall.

Probably the best fiction I've listened to in a year. Beautifully written and read. So many novels have been written over the years about WWII but this one is a little different. Every character is special and 'fits' into the story. Thought provoking and special.
