Historia
I first saw her on the platform on my way home from work a few weeks ago. She had an aura about her that made people stop and stare. Then I saw her again. And again. Our twice weekly commute into London Waterloo insync. She was always so poised, so pretty, so perfect. Everything I’m not.

Not everyone will appreciate the ending but I loved it. As an avid psychological thriller reader I’m used to a typical story arc. This book threw me

Historia
When one of Nora Bunstruggle’s friends is murdered in cold blood, it sends the Coochie Hole burlesque club on Megalopolis into shock. It soon becomes clear that the police have zero interest in the death of a burlesque dancer. But what if the twisted killer strikes their troupe again? And who is going to exact justice for the victim’s now motherless child? Nora and the gang from the Coochie Hole realise that if they want to get to catch their faceless murderous foe, they are going to have to roll their sleeves up and kick some backsides themselves.

Loved it all
Revisado: 03-09-23
I will preface this review by saying I will listen to almost any thriller Imogen Church narrates. There have been some books with meh plot lines that she has carried just in her reading of it, that being said- my only regret is not having listened to this book sooner! I absolutely loved it. It’s like she wrote the book she always wanted to narrate and then narrated the almighty hell out of it. Not usually a fan of period thrillers but this one is an exception. Contemporary issues set in the past with lots of smut humor in the mix. Love a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously and LOVE the names of the characters. Already added it to my favorites. Would whole heartedly recommend and listen again.

Twisty end

Good writing, with an end I didn’t expect. The narrator leaves something to be desired though. May be better in print, worth a gander for the story though

Historia
Dominic Rose, a bachelor and teacher, has an antiquated hobby. He studies physiognomy, the art of judging somebody's character by their facial features and expressions. Living in a cottage at the edge of the woods with his frail, bedridden mother, he has spent decades pining after Clara, the love of his life, who vanished while staying with her grandparents. When Kate Winston and her family move to North Yorkshire, it sets in motion a chain of events that will alter the lives of those involved forever.

The narrator…
Revisado: 12-03-21
I actually tried to return this book after enduring a few chapters with this narrator but couldn’t so had to stick it out. The pace, plot and arch of the story were all pretty good but the narrator nearly tanks all of that. She sounds so overwrought through the ENTIRE book. Regardless of the scene action, the character sounds utterly distressed which is exhausting. If this was a tactic to force the listener to either fully attend or completely disregard the content of the story then it worked. Because the tone is so monotonous and unvaried you have to really focus on what’s happening and being said because there’s no contextual inklings like changes in pace, feeling or emphasis. If you can get past that, then I think you’ll find the plot has some interesting and unexpected twists, especially considering the beginning of the book is a peak at the event around which the whole book is focused.

Great story. Did not see the ending coming and being well versed in psychological thrillers/mysteries/ suspense I can usually call an ending in the first 1-3 chapters. This one had me right up till the big reveal.

Not a mystery or thriller. No spoilers but a warning.
Revisado: 05-18-20
And least of a psychological one at that. Read more as a long winded fictional drama which is lovely for fans of that type of book but I am not one of them and this book certainly didn’t make me a convert. I have never wailed in my kife which could certainly be an indicator of good life fortune or happenstance— regardless the main character spends a lot of time wailing. I think more than the average -- wail moderate woman. 9 hours until she developed a backbone and then another 3 to confirm the creeping suspicion she that this is not a thriller but a mystery with legitimately— 1 odd occurrence— that for the briefest of gasps has the listener/ reader thinking— gaslighting? Did the hubby do it? Or maybe the chipper AF neighbor?? Reader. Do not be fooled. Do not be hoodwinked by this sculduggery and tom-foolery. it is the most meager of traps to keep the psychological thriller crowd hopeful- until the books last gasp— only for u to find out it was almost an irrelevant after thought in its relation to the overall plot. The narrator did a fine job though reading this nonsense however so good on her. Instant. Return.
(And so annoyed about it I wrote a review— which speaks volumes to the not insubstantial degree of annoyance)

Historia
Karla watches silently as Jason hurriedly packs his belongings into a suitcase. She knows that her stillness is unnerving him as she watches his every move from the doorway of their bedroom. "I’ve fallen in love with someone else", he’d said to her, just moments earlier. The brutality of those words hit Karla hard and she struggled to breathe as she took in each word in turn. You may think you know what Karla will do next. But you’ll be wrong. Because Karla isn't who you think she is. Only she knows what's about to happen. And you will never see it coming.

Is it the end yet?
Revisado: 09-17-19
A bit long winded at times. There were several points at which I thought the wrap up of the plot could’ve begun but frustratingly didn’t. With that said I didn’t predict all the twists in the end

An ending...to forget
Revisado: 09-11-18
This book is in desperate need of another chapter or epilogue. Hated the ending it felt like the author ran out of time or ideas and just wanted to wrap it up. I enjoyed the story overall but there's no wrap up of the sisters relationship or issues. And more importantly--how the sisters manage to pull off the eluded to ending. I understand and appreciate the fun of a little mystery or cliff hanger but to me this just felt unfinished.
