Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

What an in-depth view of how trauma can shape a persons narrative. I’ve had lots of trauma therapy and this book encapsulates everything, it seems, in to a beautiful bow-tied present of self reflection and empathy for others.

Historia
Borderline Personality Disorder. "What the hell was that?" raged Rachel Reiland when she read the diagnosis written in her medical chart. As the 29-year old accountant, wife, and mother of young children would soon discover, it was the diagnosis that finally explained her explosive anger, manipulative behaviors, and self-destructive episodes- including bouts of anorexia, substance abuse, and sexual promiscuity.

I can now accept my diagnosis.
Revisado: 06-30-22
Wow. As someone who has struggled for a decade with multiple diagnoses this books hits home. Before reading the book, I still thought I had a chance of fixing myself all on my own but now maybe I realize that I need more help. Thank you for sharing your personal story. It really made a difference for me!

Historia
From the celebrated neurobiologist and primatologist, a landmark, genre-defining examination of human behavior, both good and bad, and an answer to the question: Why do we do the things we do? Sapolsky's storytelling concept is delightful but it also has a powerful intrinsic logic: He starts by looking at the factors that bear on a person's reaction in the precise moment a behavior occurs, and then hops back in time from there, in stages, ultimately ending up at the deep history of our species and its evolutionary legacy.

A book for understanding.
Revisado: 03-21-22
As someone who struggles with their mental health, this book gave me more hope that there is a way to navigate this complicated world. Sapolsky’s writing and Goldstrom’s narrating make for a great pair in this comprehensive, multigenerational audio book. Thank you.
