Historia
After the fall of Summerland, Jane McKeene hoped her life would get simpler: Get out of town, stay alive, and head west to California to find her mother. But nothing is easy when you’re a girl trained in putting down the restless dead, and a devastating loss on the road to a protected village called Nicodemus has Jane questioning everything she thought she knew about surviving in 1880s America.

rarely do I use the word perfection, but these narrators come as close to it as it is possible for humans to be

I did not dislike a single thing. the cast of characters, even the very minor ones, are all three dimensional and layered. the fighting scenes are well written and exciting. I loved the device of the alternating chapters and the fact that no matter who was narrating, the ancillary characters are so fully formed that you can practically tell who they are before they are identified, has made this book (and it's preceding one), absolute favorites of mine!

Historia
Christopher Pike's 1993 book The Eternal Enemy proves to be VERY divisive for The Pikers. They're joined by podcaster Patrick R. McDonough on his virgin Pike voyage to talk through this wild ride of a book that begins with more information than anyone needs to know about VCRs and ends with a robot from the future with a briefcase full of flesh.

Join us on The PikeCast as Cassie, Becca, and Cooper spend some time with cheerleaders and cocaine! Released in 1991 (shortly after a show about small town highschoolers, murder, and cocaine, Twin Peaks premiered) this book paints a very unusual picture of high school life, full of perverts, wanton kinky sex, non-monogamy, casual drugs and drinking, and guns just hanging around. Yunno, like real high school. Come now, let's talk Die Softly by Christopher Pike!

I ridiculously appreciate that you all are doing this! I love Christopher Pike, and I have since my elementary school day is in the 80s, but it is so much fun to hear fellow enthusiasts examining it through a modern-day lens.

Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - derailing the War Between the States and changing the nation forever. In this new America, safety for all depends on the work of a few, and laws like the Native and Negro Education Act require certain children attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead.

New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

the story was so much fun, the characters were completely three dimensional and I both loved and hated the ending, but wouldn't have it any other way. the author is one of the best narrators I've ever heard in my life. I would listen to anything that he was reading- but I wish it would be more of his own stories

Historia
This riveting narrative explores the lives of six remarkable female pharaohs, from Hatshepsut to Cleopatra - women who ruled with real power - and shines a piercing light on our own perceptions of women in power today. Female rulers are a rare phenomenon - but thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, women reigned supreme. But throughout human history, women in positions of power were more often used as political pawns in a male-dominated society. What was so special about ancient Egypt that provided women this kind of access to the highest political office?
