Historia
Informative and accessible, Uncomfortable Conversations with a Jew has a unique structure: Acho asks questions and Tishby answers them with deeply personal, historical, and political responses. This book will enable anyone to explain—and identify—what Jewish hatred looks like. It is a much-needed lexicon for this fraught moment in Jewish history.

Dangerous lack of self awareness
Revisado: 12-15-24
This book provides some valuable insights into Judaism, but its approach to the topic of antisemitism is deeply flawed. Much of the discussion devolves into what feels like a philosophical echo chamber, with two individuals fixated on condemning European whites as the root of all societal ills. Ironically, while the book emphasizes the dangers of hateful rhetoric, it engages in its own form of antagonism, which undermines its message. This lack of self-awareness is particularly troubling given the historical consequences of such attitudes toward Jews. Preaching hate as a response to hate is ultimately a self-defeating strategy that fosters division rather than promoting peace and understanding. Although there are moments of genuine insight, the book’s lack of nuance and balance detracts from its ability to inspire unity or foster meaningful dialogue.

Historia
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Drew me in and held me. Couldn’t have asked for more. Didn’t want it to end. Will be purchasing the hardcover… one for myself and one for a gift.

Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

Held my attention
Revisado: 06-06-24
As something of a family black sheep myself, the sentiment and character of the book was relatable. I wouldn’t describe the book as frightening but, more like painful at times. Nonetheless, it was worth the listen.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

King’s back!!
Revisado: 06-02-24
For the most part, King has always been my favorite author. But, after Holly, I was sort of saddened, and a little concerned that I’d lost that loving feeling… because a favorite author is like a close and dear friend… in a way. But… You Like it Darker, has totally redeemed my faith in him. It’s a great read!! Loved it!!

Horrible
Revisado: 05-01-24
What a disappointment. Virtue signaling on steroids. On and on and on. The author got so lost in themselves that it became obvious they only wanted to beat the reader over the head ad nauseam.

Not a horrible listen, but not great either. The narrator was too dramatic for my taste. Gave the entire listen a silly and ridiculous feel.

Historia
One Christmas Eve in a small hollow in Boone County, West Virginia, struggling songwriter Jesse Walker witnesses a strange spectacle: seven devilish figures chasing a man in a red suit toward a sleigh and eight reindeer. When the reindeer leap skyward, taking the sleigh, devil men, and Santa into the clouds, screams follow. Moments later, a large sack plummets back to earth, a magical sack that thrusts the down-on-his-luck singer into the clutches of the terrifying Yule Lord, Krampus.

Ruined Holly
Revisado: 09-16-23
King ruined Holly, and then the narrator finished her off. A 50 something, chain smoking, virtue signaling hypocrite who when all was said and done proved to be no more likable than her Covid stricken dead mother.
The narrator was awful, performing the character of Holly as if she was a daffy immature 20 year old. Not sure what’s happened to King, but this once upon a time fan of his writing is sorely disappointed.
