Love This Series!!
Revisado: 11-30-24
** May Contain Spoilers **
I really love this series, love the story, and I ADORE how each book sets up the next couple in the series. The only complaint I have on this one is some of the "assumed personalities" he projects onto some of the characters. I do love that he tries to give everyone a personality, but I'd really appreciate it more of he aligned closer to the book. He aggravates me specifically when a couple characters seem childish and whiny. Especially when that whiny and childish character (Sin) acts actually in contradiction to this, well, you get it....
Otherwise, he does a great job and I'm really enjoying the series.

Historia
Food writer and clinical psychologist Scott Haas wanted to know what went on inside the mind of a top chef - and what kind of emotional dynamics drove the fast-paced, intense interactions inside a great restaurant. To capture all the heat and hunger, he spent 18 months immersed in the kitchen of James Beard Award-winner Tony Maws's restaurant, Craigie on Main, in Boston. He became part of the family, experiencing the drama first-hand.

Enjoyed this but not a gamechanger
Revisado: 09-02-24
This definitely didn't change my mind about, or give me a better understanding of kitchen staff. Maybe that's because it's 2004 and we've had a lot of exposure by now. I will say though this was a fun light listen. I did enjoy getting to know the folks involved. I also enjoyed the author's (mostly?) unbiased observations of the good and the bad. Lastly, I appreciated the chats at the end with other chefs - basically trying to draw a parallel. I enjoyed this and I thought the narrator did a fine job.

Historia
Is it possible for an American Vice President to carry out a criminal enterprise inside the White House and have nobody remember? To have one of the most brazen political bribery scandals in American history play out before the country while nobody’s paying attention? In her first original podcast, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow goes back 45 years to dig into a story that got overshadowed in its day. There’s intrigue. Corruption. Envelopes of cash delivered to the White House. It’s a story that’s not well known, but it probably should be. Especially today. Bag Man. A Rachel Maddow podcast ...

Fabulous, Very Informative!
Revisado: 06-20-22
I learned SOOOOO much from this. I love how the facts are presented with the recordings and transcripts. Rachel weaves together the story in a way that leaves you just waiting for more! I'm not sure what I expected from this, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it and did not want it to end. Great ties to current events, but lets the listener tie this together. Fast-forward thru the commercials, they don't detract from the story. The ads are no more or less than you get from other podcasts or services. I thought this was great.

Decent Audiobook, easy listen, consumable,
Revisado: 08-30-21
I did enjoy this audiobook, and I did like the the descriptors on how the principles were applied. I hate the patronizing "...If I can do this, so can you..." but I guess that's a subjective thing. I found the narrator easy to listen to, and the content easily digestible for a non-professional. I would probably listen again to further remind and enrich the content.

You know the type: the woman who won't shut up, who's too brazen, too opinionated - too much. She's the unruly woman, and she embodies one of the most provocative and powerful forms of womanhood today. In Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud, Anne Helen Petersen uses the lens of "unruliness" to explore the ascension of pop culture powerhouses like Serena Williams, Hillary Clinton, Nicki Minaj, and Kim Kardashian, exploring why the public loves to love (and hate) these controversial figures.

This book really delivered so much more than I expected. We really delved into why some of these "non-conformers" are really labeled as such, and what they really have done to earn their place in history. There is so much background and thoroughness here. You may or may not agree with it (or with it all) but there is definitely something to learn and be thankful for.

So much more, fuller, than I expected!
Revisado: 05-26-21
I really enjoyed this. I'm used to thrillers, but the twists in this really kept my attention. I read this book first - so as the 5th in the series, I really now want to go back and read the others. I really felt like I got to know the different characters. I felt like I was brought into this story, into the life of the Congo. The environment, as well as the chaos, trauma, corruption, unexpected twists, and even some happy stuff. I call this, full-bodied!
The narrator was fantastic. I really thought initially there were different narrators, but it was just really well done. I felt each person had their own persona, and that helped keep me in the moments. I did listen to this at like, 1.2 speed, but don't let that detract. The accents and attitudes were really impressive. I laughed at some of this alone!
Really, I enjoyed this a lot. I recommend. Now I'm going to back to the others :) Thanks for the fabulous listen!! Seriously, please keep writing!!

It is a top-tier waiter's personal coming-of-age story, an intimate look into the complicated challenges of serving in the country's most elite, Hollywood-centric dining room while fighting to maintain a sense of self and purpose.

What did you love best about Waiter to the Rich and Shameless?
I very much enjoyed the insight provided, and the unique perspective into the service industry, from someone who truly enjoyed it, and what happens when the corporate machine comes in and destroys it. The stories were unique and entertaining.

Interesting!
Revisado: 12-02-15
Where does Born to Magic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Interesting story, a post apocalyptic tale that captures your attention and brings you right in. It's has a funny twist in that it's futuristic, yet medieval king and queen fantasy type, but it works, very well, in fact.
It was complex enough, and a good parallel good versus evil battle, and very well developed characters. The dystopian and fantasy worked well together. I think there is lots of room for back story, and more to come.
The only drawback is having to wait for volume 2. So I really did enjoy this, and unlike many others, I'll probably find myself going back for a re-listen before volume 2.
Helene McCardle did a good job with the narration, I never found myself wondering who was whom, or wandering away.

Light listen, couldn't get into
Revisado: 11-15-15
Would you try another book from Addison Moore and/or Caitlin Kelly?
Have listened to other books by this author but had a hard time getting into this book. The characters seemed adolescent, as if I was reading about high school or YA characters, not college or adult age characters.
So, Baya and Bryson come together, are growing up and finding themselves, but it just seemed like the story line was a bit lacking and it was a lot more about trying to have sex, or trying not to have sex, or shaming others for having sex. And that's the story - but there was so much more potential here.
But I also think the narrator does a pretty decent job. The voices sounded right, and made me laugh.

Revisado: 11-15-15
If you could sum up Curse of the Alpha: Episodes One and Two in three words, what would they be?
Would listen again!
I really enjoyed this listen, I seemed to be pulled right in, and was engaged by the story, the world building, the character building, and the angst! Whoomph! After Ainsley suffers a traumatic experience (for all parties involved!) she runs away, but then is forced to have to return and then have to deal with things.
This was a listen filled with paranormal suspense, !!wonderful!! wolves, a strong heroine, an engaging story that the narrator, Ms, Spear, does wonderfully! Ms. Spear seems to really pull everything together and give everyone their own voices and emotions and isn't shy or bashful at the sexy bits. Kudos there!
This does end in a cliffhanger, however the next in the series is available, and considering how wonderful this was, I'll be going right for the next :) Thank you for a great listen!
