AMAZING. Absolute stunner

The only thing I disliked is that I couldn’t immediately read the next book. I loved it all. It’s magic system, the love story, the unpredictability. The audio performance was AMAZING. Please please please publish the sequel ASAP.

Absolutely loved this one. Highly recommend! Very good story full of twists and turns and points where you really don’t know where the story will go! The narration is excellent. Loved the character development, especially the blossoming of the female friendships as well as the main female protagonist realizing her own worth. Loved it and would read again!

Historia
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites. The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.

I loved the story - couldn’t stop listening! The descriptions of things and feelings do get a touch tedious in spots, but I really loved the FMC.
I do wish there’d been more spice, as it was teased the entire book and nothing came of it. Maybe in book 2?

What a fun, well produced story to listen to. Includes loads of scenes and insights not included in the film, and having seen the film several times, listening to this book still gave me the same thrills and emotions, like I was experiencing an extended version of the film. Rey is such an amazing character.

Goes on waaaay too long - and the ending doesn't deliver.
Revisado: 12-14-17
I liked this story, but it just went on and on and literally spans FIVE decades for two characters. I found it frustrating bc you knew they'd end up together but it just took SO BLOODY LONG. Like this book could've easily been half as long. The correspondence only storytelling format grew tiresome. Also *spoiler alert* after sitting thru decades of these people's lives and emails, they only finally get together on the last page and Don't. Even. Kiss. Wtfffff?

Consent's a bit iffy in this one
Revisado: 05-06-17
What did you like best about Time Was? What did you like least?
Best? Interesting premise, I suppose.
Least? The male protagonist seemed to disregard the female character's comfort or consent and just go for it and question why she was so "rigid". It made me pretty uncomfortable. I get the author, in her mind, was probably doing it for romance build up, but eee. Yikes. Numerous times the female character told him to stop, or stay away from her, and he disregarded it and plowed forward, or questioned why she was so uptight.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Consent, for starters.

A satisfying sequel
Revisado: 02-11-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes -anyone who likes fantasy or supernatural, as well as historical fiction, will love this. It is absolutely necessary to read the first book as this is not a standalone.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Helen - I loved seeing her arc as a character grow stronger and stronger. She was independent, strong, brave and such a departure from who she was in the beginning of Novel 1.
Any additional comments?
My god, the Duke of Selburn storyline was infuriatingly annoying. He just keeps hanging around, lingering though no one in the book, including Lady Helen, can stand the man. He is constantly telling Helen what to do, even though she is a warrior and has told him to buzz off. He spends most of the book being a busybody and a pest and a distraction for the plot and I was BUMMED when he was kept on throughout the book in a way that means he'll be in the following books. My advice to the author? Lose the Duke.

She's taken her eye off the ball and has busied herself with work (a job she doesn't love), helping out friends, fixing her car, feeding her cat, seeing her family, and devoting her time to their life dramas. Absolute stunner
Revisado: 02-09-17
I've listened to this one three times and it's still one of my faves. The story is redemptive, different, charming and still very relatable. Lucy, the protagonist, is living a boring lifeless day-to-day until her literal Life, an actual person, orders an audit of her life to fix it. Both the main characters are so weirdly lovable and remain interesting. The reason this book is so good is that it sneakily gets you to examine your existence and wonder if your "Life" were to contact you, would it be happy? Would it want to change things about yourself? The narrator is also fantastic, except for how she pronounces the word "awkward" (ooork-werd?!)
Either way, this book is a goddamn delight and you WILL love it.
