Historia
Everyone could see it coming. But one man could do something about it. Oh, he couldn't avert the nuclear holocaust, but a scientist in Austria, ruthlessly using billions of research dollars for his own purposes, set himself up and out: he created a time machine, and filled a warehouse with low-tech survival gear. Too bad he didn't get to use it himself. Instead, a team of American grad students, led by their professor, is sent back to the late Roman Empire. Even though they are experts in this time and place, they are about to realize that books and actual experience are very different things.

Disappointing.
Revisado: 04-25-25
This book is packed with technical detail and history.
Unfortunately, the author forgot to include a story. The main characters are all 'Mary Sue's', perfectly suited to their task, with no difficulties or shortcomings. There is no conflict in this story, no setbacks, no plot twists. It's simply an A to B telling of a power fantasy....what if an ex-military college professor time traveled to the Roman Empire with a wagon load of handpicked modern technology with nothing to lose and the goal of bootstrapping the Romans into a modern Empire....for reasons.
This last is my biggest problem with the novel.....no real reason is ever given for jumpstarting technology in Rome....just vaguely.....'things could be better with modern technology'.
Now I have no problem with books that are mostly exposition, and no problem with power fantasies.
But it's not very satisfying when there isn't even the semblance of a plot to move things forward.

All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. Historia
As a Knight of Crystallia, I, Bastille, swore to protect the Smedry clan from the Evil Librarians. (And believe me, screwups like them constantly need protecting.) But when Alcatraz Smedry got strapped to an altar of outdated encyclopedias to be sacrificed to the dark gods, I arrived too late―and instead his father took his place. Now Alcatraz is a blubbering mess, so it’s up to me lead the charge against his father’s killer: Biblioden, founder of the Evil Librarians―I was sure he died centuries ago!―who’s back to complete his goal of world domination.

Historia
The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

I was worried that the formula would have grown stale after this many books, but it's only gotten more refined. Can't wait for more.

It was, okay.....pretty anxiety producing...
And then it just.....stopped.
I can't say it ended, because there was no end......I have no idea what happened with the story.....it just faded out....cut to credits.......really really badly done after all the build up.

I got this because of all the glowing reviews....
I am returning it because I actually listened to it. Unlike the other reviewers apparently.
This reads like it was written by a talented ten year old boy. You know, the one that gets picked on but spends his time writing power fantasy stories in the corner.
I really wish I understood how you get reviews like this, for a novella that is the literally equivalent of a bowl of cornflakes.

Historia
Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead. Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply.

Revisado: 03-08-22
Hard to belive this is the same author who wrote 131 days and the other Mt. Man books.
Literally just about a man you needs to puke, poop, and pee all the time. Nothing else Amazingly pointless. Literally a waste of time and nothing like the other books, which to be fair, had a lot of elimination in them...but only as a detail....not as literally the whole story.

Historia
Jordan McKell has a problem with authority. Unfortunately for him, the iron-fisted authority of the powerful Patthaaunutth controls virtually every aspect of galactic shipping. In order to survive, Jordan ekes out a living dabbling in interstellar smuggling for outlaw concerns that represent the last vestiges of free trade in the galaxy. So when Jordan and his partner, Ixil - an alien with two ferret-like "outhunters" linked to his neural system - are hired by a mysterious gentleman to fly a ship and its special cargo to Earth, they jump at the job.

I've been waiting a long time for this.
Revisado: 02-03-22
First listened to this book on cassette tape probably 20 years ago.
I never forgot it, and have been checking at least once a year for a decade hoping it would come to audible.
This is a great, oldschool sci-fi adventure story. Aliens, guns fights, mystery, humor, down on their luck space pilots....the good stuff, before it all became about "ThE mEsAge." Its not part a series....which is too bad as I'd like another book in this universe, but also means there is no grand commitment here. Just what people used to call a good book.
Unfortunately, the reader likes his job a bit too much. He really turns it up to 11 when doing the alien voices. Enough to make you jump if your trying to listen to the story while drifting off to sleep.

In the near future, the New Las Vegas Sunfield will be one of many enormous solar farms to supply energy to the United States. At more than fifty miles long and two miles wide, the Sunfield generates an electromagnetic field so volatile that ordinary machinery and even the simplest electronic devices must be kept miles away from it. Thus, the only men who can guard the most technologically advanced power station on earth do so on horseback. They are the Outriders.

Revisado: 10-13-21
Decent writing, a interesting set up....characters....places.....
But I have no idea what the actual plot was. Its sort of a dreamy, modern cowboy poem.....nothing is explained, nothing is understood....it just drifts from 'beginning' to 'end' with no purpose or energy.

No one expected Ragnarok. The miles-wide meteor fell from the sky in 2030, taking most of humanity with it. The lucky ones took refuge in the Bunkers. The unlucky ones had to deal with the meteor's aftermath...and the alien virus it unleashed. Now, that virus is evolving, creating an army of mutants and monsters, mixing Earth genetics with something...not Earth. As humanity struggles in the wastelands of what's left, it might already be too late...unless a band of young heroes can rise up, and fight.

Young Adult ,Fallout inspired fantasy.
Revisado: 06-19-21
It's not bad, but its written for a young audience. 30 years ago I probably would have loved this, but at 40 and after reading hundreds of PA books over the years this just has nothing to hold my attention. I made it about six hours in before I realized it was just background noise and I wasn't paying any attention to it.
Really, not bad if your looking for young adult apocalypse pulp but if you've moved beyond that you will probably end up bored.
