One of My Favorites

This is my 3rd time listening to this series, and because of some of the other reviews I've seen, I feel I need to write one of my own. This is not a stand alone novel. It's a series. Don't be mad at the author because there isn't a pretty bow at the end of book 1. There are characters who are mean, misogynistic, and evil. Welcome to literature. The protagonist is self depreciating but he's worth paying attention to long enough to learn why.

This book is full of well developed characters, excellent, (and sometimes funny), prose, and action. My favorite thing about this series is the magic system. It's unique and beautiful. The author does a wonderful job of describing it. I can see every scene clearly in my mind and I care about the characters. The narroration is excellent.

I believe many readers may not have been able to keep up with vocabulary. I believe others spaced out and didn't bother going back to read what they missed. There is a lot of detail. You do have to pay attention. The story is unfolding. The characters have epiphanies and the plot advances. There are many words that the author has invented to define the magic system, political system, and religious groups in the novel. If this bothers you, maybe move on.

Some of my favorite books are The Kingkiller Chronicles, (Patrick Rothfuss), The Game of Thrones series, (George RR Martin), Expoditionary Force series, (Craig Alanson), Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, (Douglas Adams), LOTR, (duh), anything Stephen King or Clive Barker writes and most things Jeremy Robinson writes. This series is original and like nothing I've read before. I think about it months and years after finishing it. To me, that's the sign of a great story.

I almost didn't read this one because of some of the reviews. It's beautifully written and although all the characters are written in the first person it wasn't at all hard to follow. Worth the credit.

Great Book for Kids!

Better than LOTR. SERIOUSLY.

Have faith. He will finish it. The prose alone is worth the listen. It is one of the most compelling and visually stunning works of fiction I have ever read. It's magic system is unique, and the characters are so vividly described that you feel you know them. I listen to them over and over again! Best purchase I've made on Audible!

My 1st written review after 100's of titles

Thank you Rosamund Pike! I heard about The Wheel of Time while looking for new reads on Audible years ago. I have tried and tried to get through 5min. of Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading's version and I never could. The narration in this new version is top notch. If you like LOTR, Kingkiller Chronicles, and other such high fantasy, then you should give it a read!Please hurry and narrate the rest! I'll be waiting to buy them as soon as they're released.

Maybe better on paper

The prose is excellent. The narroration is excellent. But it was hard to tell when one story ended and the next began. All of the stories felt like a piece of a novel. Nothing felt like it concluded.
