Amazing!!!
Revisado: 06-14-23
I had high expectations, since the song and the music video were so great, and not only were they met they were exceeded! I wish I had this book when I was younger. I also loved that I was transported to the early 2000’s. The story telling was amazing and I felt like I got to know and care about not just our main girls but the other characters as well. Definitely recommend this book.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Liked it about halfway through.
Revisado: 06-09-23
I honestly couldn’t get into this book until it was more than halfway through. Gideon was in my opinion a boring character. All the other characters proved much more interesting and due to all the unanswered questions in plot it was really hard to follow for so long. Wouldn’t say I recommend it but I am going to give the second one a read since Harrow seemed like a more enjoyable character.

Good but not great.
Revisado: 03-09-23
I really enjoyed the first one and was excited to continue the story however I found this one to b lacking. The beginning of the book was interesting but by the third part I was less invested since it was such a large time gap and my favorite characters were no longer the center of the story. With that being said I did enjoy this story.

Wasn’t sure what to expect
Revisado: 02-24-23
After reading the reviews I wasn’t sure how I was gonna feel about this book. I am happy to say I loved this book. The characters can take a while to grow on you but by the end they’ll have you rooting for their triumph. I love that the characters are flawed but they have such depth. Would recommend and I’m looking forward to the sequel

Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Bit of a disappointment
Revisado: 01-27-23
While I had high hopes for this story, I found halfway through I just wanted it to end. There was very little character development and the story itself was lacking. I was never able to find myself caring about any of the characters. If your looking for something to listen to where everyone is just nice and everything is resolved quickly and easily you might like it.

Enter Allison Sawyer, a free-spirited senior at New York University. Elena is intrigued by Allison's ability to push her out of her element, and the young woman's instant and easy connection with a normally shy Lucas quickly earns Allison the job. After each blind date, Elena returns home to complain to Allison about her lacking suitors. As they bond, Elena begins to realize that the person possessing all the qualities she most desires might just be the woman who has been in front of her the entire time.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 05-25-22
This book started off pretty good. I enjoyed the build up and the characters interacting in the beginning however as the book progressed I started to loose interest. Allison’s personality is flat and she speaks like a teenager instead of a college senior. Elena who is supposed to be wealthy and rigid doesn’t seem to have any thing in common with Allison and that doesn’t change throughout the entire story they don’t seem to have any deep connection and the whole time I’m wondering what they would like about each other what would they talk about because throughout the story they only talk about tragic pasts and Elena’s son. A lot of little things bugged me and after the 6th hour I really just wanted the story to be over too many little cute moments with no actual conflict in the book.
Spoiler
Who takes someone on a date to their job to have sex and then has to work later. Why?! That date was so pointless to me she’s not even a photographer so why, just to have sex where all the employees are still in the building? sounds like a very unplanned date for a person who is supposed to be so particular.

Personally wouldn’t recommend
Revisado: 04-08-22
While I thought the book was alright I liked the story kind of but it also had some major issues I didnt like. One issue being that I wish it has some type of trigger warning with the mentions of cutting and suicidal thoughts and abuse I wasnt necessarily prepared for such heavy topics to be thrown in, another issue was the amount of Christianity that felt very preachy, I really didn’t need to listen to at least 30 minutes of the debate on animals souls in the Bible, it in no way progressed the story line. There was also this weird thing with lesbian stereotypes and I don’t like the Native American culture depicted in this story especially since I am unsure if the author is even part of said culture the pow wow and Pocahontas jokes and what I’m assuming is a way to tie the idea of a shape shifter into a spiritual reasoning didn’t sit well with me. The overall lack of POC representation combined with making a white presenting woman be mixed and with no other Native American people in the story just felt sloppy in narration. I only finished because by the half way point I had already invested all this time.

Historia
This remarkable novel begins in 1850s Louisiana, where Gilda escapes slavery and learns about freedom while working in a brothel. After being initiated into eternal life as one who "shares the blood" by two women there, Gilda spends the next 200 years searching for a place to call home. An instant lesbian classic when it was first published in 1991, The Gilda Stories has endured as an auspiciously prescient book in its explorations of blackness, radical ecology, re-definitions of family, and yes, the erotic potential of the vampire story.

Not what I was expecting
Revisado: 03-11-22
I really wanted to like this story. While it was wonderfully written and the story did grasp my attention a few times throughout. I found that the story very much lacked a plot and the main character was just not interesting enough for me. Considering the times through which she lived her life seemed very tame and lost. The supporting characters were much more Interesting. I will say that the beginning chapters were the best but then the story just fell flat for me, just giving bits and pieces of this women who has lived through so much of history. Worth a listen but I wouldn’t listen to it again.

Was expecting so much more
Revisado: 01-14-22
While I over all did enjoy the story. I found the characters and plot lacking. As many mentioned before the ending was very anticlimactic after pages and pages of set up and background the final battle was meh. Also I found that Mare was very much unlikable throughout the whole story coming off as a selfish child and very much intolerant of this new culture and kingdom she was very much disrespectful in a new place where she was meant to be brokering an alliance. Not sure if I’ll listen to a third of it comes out.

Good read but disappointing
Revisado: 05-13-21
I love fairytales and was excited to read this but I found that it was very slow paced and the romance was almost non existent. The interactions between the main character and the princess feel like they maybe were friends but any romance is subtle. The books was a good read until it wasn’t. Towards the end I realized there would probably be a sequel because there was no way to wrap anything up but then the author starts adding some major story twist that feel rushed and out of character and I began to lose interest. It had a lot of interesting elements. The world that was created I found very fascinating and the concept over all was great. I probably won’t be getting the sequel.
