Amaia Salazar, a young detective from the north of Spain, has joined a group of trainees at the FBI Academy in Virginia. Haunted by her past and having already tracked down a predator on her own, Amaia is no typical rookie. And this is no ordinary student lecture at Quantico. FBI agent Aloisius Dupree is already well acquainted with Amaia’s skills, her intuition, and her ability to understand evil. He now needs her help in hunting an elusive serial killer dubbed “the Composer,” and in solving another case that’s been following him his whole life.

Impeccable narration
Revisado: 02-23-25
This is a very well written and engaging book. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and was pleasantly surprised with the highly talented narrator. The book combines crime investigation, murder, and psychology bordering at times on the occult. It’s a rich mixture of storylines that might be too much for some but I enjoyed it. Also, this book had to be translated from Spanish and the translation is excellent.

Six stars.
Revisado: 08-05-24
Who knew Boris Johnson was such an engaging and informed author. Of all the probably hundreds of books that have been written about Churchill, this might be the only one that really delves comprehensively into his singular genius and psyche as well as his lasting effect on the resilience of western democracy and world peace.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

A lot of background and historical detail
Revisado: 06-26-24
Once you come to terms with the breathless overacting of the narrator, the story is well researched and immerses the reader and the human side of this great tragedy. It also brings to light the length that governments will go to during times of crisis to execute strategies that put innocent lives at risk. War is indeed hell.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

Insightful picture of the cycle of corruption

This book portrays the dilemma of those caught in the grip of corrupt and brutal totalitarian rule but it is a brilliant platform for The insightful analysis of the cycles of modern civilization. Stick with it. As always, Frank Muller does a masterful job with the narration!

Waste of time
Revisado: 05-19-24
I listened to this entire book because I kept thinking something was going to happen. Something happens about 85% of the way in and then does not resolve itself. I would not even recommend reading the Cliff notes on this one. By the way, if someone wanted to write a novel condemning corruption and big money in politics, it should’ve been done in a way that is more relevant to reality. This book attempts to do that but is so fabricated and unrealistic that it almost becomes a mockery - not a big fan of this one needless to say. By the way, the narrator, which has narrated several of Grisham’s novels, makes a good effort but OMG the southern drawl really starts to grate about halfway through. They all sound the same and they all sound like they just climbed off a dusty tractor somewhere!
