I loved everything about this! This was my first Ali Hazelwood book, and after reading it, I SINCERELY hope she writes a lot more paranormal romance because it was excellent in every way.

Historia
Someone paid the vampire king’s creepy son to turn me into one of the bitey undead. I’m not hanging about to find out who or why. The vampires want me to stay with them for one hundred years of indentured servitude but I have this thing about following orders so I ran from the streets of London to the wilds of Alaska. I have an eidetic memory and a can-do attitude. I can-do anything to get away from the vampire king. So when the Sheriff of Portlock, a hidden paranormal town, invites me to be his assistant, I say sure thing. It beats servitude hands down.

Can’t stand the narrator
Revisado: 03-22-25
The book seems very interesting but this narrator is ruining it for me- she’s all over the place. She reads every sentence strangely. Sometimes her voice it way too high pitched and it’s like nails on a chalk board. She rushes through and mumbles the middle part of nearly every sentence and pauses or speaks too slowly at other parts. It’s so annoying and distracting, I can’t focus on the story or adjust the listening speed correctly and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY

Historia
The fae queen has been making her own plans, none of which involve us surviving the next ten days. When we can't seem to stay ahead of her magic or her mercenaries, the only chance to save the people I love is a potentially deadly gamble—where a single mistake could bring disaster not only for us but for every Idrian refugee on Earth.

Love the story but….
Revisado: 02-08-25
I did really enjoy the story, but the idiocy of the FMC throughout the entire series is enraging. She’s just a naive moron who doesn’t seem capable of learning when it comes to those around her. The fact that she- AGAIN- gave her fake aunt another chance and was surprised at being betrayed is mind boggling.

Junior High Emotions
Revisado: 01-24-25
These characters are so wishy washy, idiotic, and immature it is absolutely ridiculous. It’s junior high meets cheesey soap opera drama. Half way through the story I no longer cared what happened to either one of them.

Lorelei Clay wants to play offense for a change. She’s tired of hiding from the past she didn’t even know she had. With a promising relationship and new friends in a small town she loves, Lorelei wants to be free to live life on her terms, without the threat of death or capture hanging over her. Revisado: 12-31-24
I STRONGLY suggest waiting for the next book to come out before you listen to this one. I just finished it and I haven’t been this frustrated and infuriated… and just plain pissed off by a book ending in a long time.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

I wasn’t sure I’d like this, as it’s not my usual style, but I absolutely loved it. It’s a fantastic blend of mystery and romance and the main characters (including Dot) are all impressively charming.

Masterfully Woven
Revisado: 08-26-23
This author has really impressed me so far… there is very thorough character development, excellent pacing, and thoughtful and purposeful word choice. The way the pieces fall perfectly into place without being overly expected or obvious is so satisfying and shows that the storylines have been fully thought-out ahead of time. There is mystery and excitement without anxiety-inducing or cringe-worthy angst (which I feel like so many other books I’ve read lately are guilty of). There isn’t a single negative I can think of— I LOVED both books and can’t wait for the third. Definitely credit-worthy.

Historia
When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything—or anyone—that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case.

ugh
Revisado: 09-17-22
I enjoy the Scarlett Bernard series, but one thing that drives me absolutely crazy is how she makes every situation worse and ignores simple solutions.
For instance, at one point she could VERY easily clear her name by providing an alibi to the cardinal vampire by admitting she was 1. with Eli most of the night and then doing a job for the witches immediately afterward at the time 3 murders were committed and 2. by bringing the werewolf witness forward to tell everyone that he came into contact with 2 different nulls that night (Scarlett, shortly after arriving on scene and another null who was escaping the crime scene as Scarlett arrived).
She never speaks up even though doing so would be an EXTREMELY simple solution. her thought process and reasoning for NOT explaining herself is entirely illogical and even though the people she deals with are scary, her not showing any sort of back-bone or sense of self-preservation is infuriating.
