Love this author!
Revisado: 10-28-24
I've really enjoyed this series. I love that I can get a bundle sometimes so I don't have to get them separately. You really need to start at book one to really understand what's happening later in the series. I wish Lisa had more books/bundles! I've only got 2 books left and I'm already sad there isn't more in this series.

Great story
Revisado: 09-11-24
I really liked that this wasn't hard core 'romance' novel and had a good story line. the accents the narrator did was comical at times but, she did well. I chose it because of how long the entire series was and I'm glad I did.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

worth every minute
Revisado: 02-03-24
I am not very popular when I say I'm not a Stephen King fan, being a Mainer and all but this book... oh yes!! I didn't realize I was hook from the first chapter until I didn't turn the TV on for days while I pittered around the house just so I could keep listening!
Even the narrator was fantastic! the inflections of a 17 year old boy, the fairy tale characters, the emotion portrayed, was top notch.
I've already decided to listen again in case I missed something, to hear it all over again and to enjoy it again.
Some say there was too much of going on and on but I think it was just enough to give detail to imagine the character, environment and story.
I would be very surprised if this is not a story you enjoy. If you're wondering if you should or not, DO IT!

I really enjoyed this
Revisado: 06-17-23
I was hesitant to listen to this one. the sample listen got me intrigued. I'm glad I did. the story itself got a little confusing character wise and I had to rewind and give it another listen. to sort it out.
my favorite part of this story is the narrator! she was great! it reminded me of when I read to my babies when they were little. changed her voice a bit with each character. I now understand why children love that souch. I will listen to any book she reads in a heartbeat.
I think this is worth a listen and recommend it. be prepared to relisten some parts but this was enjoyable while doing chores

Historia
Thirty thousand years ago, ice was storming the planet. Among the species forced out of the trees and onto the steppes by the advancing cold was modern man, who was both predator and prey. No stranger to the experiences that make us human - a mother's love and a father's betrayal, tribal war and increasing famine, political intrigue and forbidden love, joy and hope and devastating loss - our ancestors competed for scant resources in a brutal landscape.

love this series
Revisado: 12-25-22
Some would say negative this about this series because of some rough situations the young women endure but the bigger picture is inspiring. shows how this you Ng woman has a straight like no other and how she helps herself. She is strong. She is a mother. She is clever.
Like I said, there are some parts hard to hear but the author does this delicately. I recommend a listen, get to the end. You won't regret it.
My phone nly grip is hearing the cars zooming past in the background when the narrator is speaking. You don't hear it unless you're using earbuds but it can be distracting.

one of my favorites
Revisado: 12-14-22
I love this series. I've read it over and over and now get to listen to it. this is my second time. a story of perseverance, strength and some hard life events that would crush most made her stronger.
The narrator was pretty good. my only issue with it is when I wear earbuds to listen, I can hear cars going by in the background it's distracting sometimes.

Eighty centuries ago, in the frozen land that is now Alaska, a clubfooted male child had been left to die, when a woman named K’os rescued him. Twenty years later and no longer a child, Chakliux occupies the revered role as his tribe’s storyteller. In the neighboring village of the Near River people, where Chakliux will attempt to make peace by wedding the shaman’s daughter, a double murder occurs that sends him on a harsh, enthralling journey in search of the truth about the tragic losses his people have suffered, and into the arms of a woman he was never meant to love.

rough beginning but stuck with it
Revisado: 05-06-22
I read the review about how horrible the story is because it was based on a rape. it is true that this is how it began but there is so much more to the story.
I enjoyed this book and can't wait to hear the next.
I like the narrator. he tries to add depth to the voices of the characters unlike the first trilogy narrator that drove me nuts.
