Realistic account
Revisado: 10-01-17
I found this to be a great to the minute account of a day in the life of a nurse. While the memories and personal reflections on each situation would be very nurse to nurse, I found a lot of the questions she contemplated to be familiar to healthcare personnel in general. I think it would be a great book for anyone not in healthcare to see a perspective from inside the nurses clogs, or for an aspiring nurse to understand what a day is really like.

not a lot of medical details or explanations... but a ton of hilarious, disgusting and disturbing stories of what medics encounter. not appropriate for all ages btw, I was hoping to share with my preteen son but profanity and violence nixed that idea. . the author did great giving us all the juicy bits with only relevant details of his life in addition to his work experiences. I recommend for anyone considering a career in patient care to listen as a reality check of the highs and lows to expect. enjoyed!

Revisado: 12-29-15
I am a nursing student and this course was a great overvuew of a myriad of conditions that are commonly faced in healthcare. The professor does an eccellent job of stopping to define uncommon terms and of giving wellthought out alternatives to his conclusions. Loved it!!

cute
Revisado: 12-11-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
not scientific at all... this book is cute, meandering musings about marriage. I like more scientific information but this was strictly "uplifting". not to discount the effects of motivation but I would hardly call it research. otherwise, enjoyable, as long as you expect what you are getting.
What three words best describe Fawn Weaver’s performance?
nice voice but odd spacing in some places... like pauses where no pause belonged, choppy.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
no

Revisado: 11-19-15
As a student In nursing school, I listen to books by survivors of every type of disorder in order to gain insight into the patient's perspective. Abbey's story is fun and motivational but she doesnt go into great depths about her illness. Far more about the details of pageantry, which even though not an interest of mine was entertaining. I admire her attitude and work with disabled girls. And as always I appreciate someone willing to share their story.

insightful
Revisado: 08-26-15
As an aspiring medical professional I always appreciate someone willing to share their story. Hearing from the patients perspective allows me to understand their motivation. Not having similar issues, it was very insightful to hear the ideas and actions that she took, that I never would have thought of. I also enjoy the explanation of procedures and medications, as many with fertility issues are likely subject to similar treatments. Overall easy listen and entertaining.

Historia
Infertility affects 15 per cent of couples trying for their first baby. It is a huge and complicated topic with lots of on-going research into it, and can be daunting to the non-medical person. To read an article in the paper about new technology, or horror stories about old, can cause great anxiety in an already stressful situation. The aim of this book is to explain the causes, tests and treatments for infertility, and to give couples a clear understanding of the processes that they will go through.

Historia
"I delivered twenty babies in the summer of 1977. I was hardly more than a baby myself, just turned 24 and starting my third year of medical school." So began Mark Sloan's three-decades-long exploration of the wonders and oddities of human childbirth. Pediatrician, husband, and father, the author has attended nearly 3000 births since that long-ago summer, encountering everything from routine deliveries to tense labor-room dramas.

everything I wanted to know!
Revisado: 08-20-15
I am a nursing student, not a new mom, and I think Dr Sloan wrote this book just for me. Full of practical, scientific and patient care topics (normal and abnormal) with bonus historical information and medical terminology. He details with personal accounts to illustrate his points and many stories entertain as well. I love the minds of doctors and he sounds like a great one! Loved it! I gave 4 pts for performance because he is somewhat monotone, which works for me but others may find dry. I like authors narrating their own books though!

Historia
Mary Mallon was a courageous, headstrong Irish immigrant woman who bravely came to America alone, fought hard to climb up from the lowest rung of the domestic service ladder, and discovered in herself an uncanny, and coveted, talent for cooking. Working in the kitchens of the upper class, she left a trail of disease in her wake, until one enterprising and ruthless "medical engineer" proposed the inconceivable notion of the "asymptomatic carrier" - and from then on Mary Mallon was a hunted woman.

Engaging; American history & love story
Revisado: 06-30-15
Insightful look into the world of immigrants in the early 1900s, I love how it is told from Mary's perspective, feels realistic and you understand what she was likely thinking. The story helps to bring this interesting part of medical history to Into your own frame of reference. Ultimately a tale of human experience and one woman's success, grief, love and unfortunate fate as an outcast of society. Also fantastic narration with the different accents, Irish, German, Italian and so on.
