Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Historia
In 1980, a freshman congressman was gunned down in Rhode Island, sending shockwaves through Washington that are still reverberating over four decades later. Now, with the world on the brink of war and a weakened United States facing rampant inflation, political division, and shocking assassinations, a secret cabal of global elites is ready to assume control. And with the world’s most dangerous man locked in solitary confinement, the conspirators believe the final obstacle to complete domination has been eliminated. They’re wrong.

Bulletproof hero with credibility
Revisado: 05-30-23
I found Only the Dead intense and engrossing from start to finish. And that is from someone who remembers being excited by Goldfinger at the age of 10. The plot certainly pushes up against the current threats to the American republic by the left. That might not suit everyone. But I couldn’t help thinking that perhaps the bad elements of the FBI, the CIA and the Russia hoaxers could be dealt with and cleaned up by a few days with James Reese.
The narration is among the best that I have ever encountered.

Historia
In Armageddon, acclaimed New Testament authority Bart D. Ehrman delves into the most misunderstood—and possibly the most dangerous—book of the Bible, exploring the horrifying social and political consequences of expecting an imminent apocalypse and offering a fascinating tour through three millennia of Judeo-Christian thinking about how our world will end. By turns hilarious, moving, troubling, and provocative, Armageddon presents inspiring insights into how to live our lives in the face of an uncertain future.

What Bart Ehrman really says about the end
Revisado: 05-09-23
This book certainly makes some good points. I don’t believe it is up to the level of previous books by Dr. Ehrman. I always expect an interjection of Dr. Ehrman’s liberalism and he certainly did not fail here. Perhaps the book should be more appropriately titled what Bart Ehrman really says about the end. Beginning the book with chastisement of those who hold apocalyptic views is a bit of a cheap shot to me and, perhaps, set the wrong tone for the book.

Historia
Historians know virtually nothing about the two decades following the crucifixion of Jesus, when his followers regrouped and began to spread his message. During this time the man we know as the apostle Paul joined the movement and began to preach to the gentiles. Using the oldest Christian documents that we have - the letters of Paul - as well as other early Christian sources, historian and scholar James Tabor reconstructs the origins of Christianity.

Balance of Bible and history
Revisado: 06-27-22
I thoroughly enjoyed the balance of Bible with specific references and history, as available. The comparison of accounts in different parts of the Bible and other sources is compelling. The narration is one of the best.

Historia
For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people. And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today’s “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right.

Framing a better argument
Revisado: 06-20-22
Thanks for helping me to understand the logic and necessity of framing a better argument based on human flourishing which so many people claim to want in the face of the anti-impact antihuman rhetoric that is taught to our children and that is so prevalent. I pray that saner minds will prevail with more cogent facts arguments such as yours.

Human history is full of the stories of peasants, subjects, and tribes. Yet the concept of the “citizen” is historically rare — and was among America’s most valued ideals for over two centuries. But without shock treatment, warns historian Victor Davis Hanson, American citizenship as we have known it may soon vanish.

Disasters are inherently hard to predict. Pandemics, like earthquakes, wildfires, financial crises. and wars, are not normally distributed; there is no cycle of history to help us anticipate the next catastrophe. But when disaster strikes, we ought to be better prepared than the Romans were when Vesuvius erupted, or medieval Italians when the Black Death struck. We have science on our side, after all.

Revisado: 07-05-21
Parts of this book were perhaps a little premature concerning coronavirus. The likelihood that the virus was manipulated in the Wuhan laboratory are profound and directly consistent with Trump’s opinion. This speaks to the amorality of science and the potential for evil men to do evil things with science—always a great risk fir collective doom.

Superb contribution to search for the historical Jesus
Revisado: 04-11-21
If you are intrigued by the search for the historical Jesus, you will find this an intense compact book written in the style of stories that can be documented by archaeological methods. I greatly appreciate Dr. Tabor’s methodical and respectful treatment of this subject.
