Historia
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Compelling characters and world
Revisado: 10-04-24
I loved the depth and dimension of the characters and world that Brandon Sanderson created in Mistborn, the final empire. It was both captivating. I believed all of the characters. I loved the craftsmanship of the story he created.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Annoyed by Rilla Blythe at first. Then I learned to live and appreciate her. Charming, but more serious final book in the series.

Historia
Few subjects are as compelling-or as endlessly variable-as love and marriage. The Bible is filled with references to husbands and wives, from the story of Adam and Eve to advice in the New Testament, each open to interpretation. In The Meaning of Marriage, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and bestselling author of The Reason for God, uses the scriptures as his guide to show readers what God's call to marriage is, and why this is such a powerful call.

LGBTQ Love Story?!?
Revisado: 05-12-23
This was advertised as fantasy genre. Not so. Barely any fantasy or magic to get lost in. Worst of all, the author did not have the courage to admit it is primarily a gay love story, a very slow boring gay love story.

Historia
Striving for beauty, art also reveals what is broken. It presents us with the tremendous struggles and longings common to the human experience. And it says a lot about our Creator too. Great works of art can speak to the soul in a unique way. Rembrandt Is in the Wind is an invitation to discover some of the world's most celebrated artists and works and how each of them illuminates something about God, people, and the purpose of life. Part art history, part biblical study, part philosophy, and part analysis of the human experience, this book is nonetheless all story.

Captivating and Profound
Revisado: 02-23-23
I was amazed by the beauty and wisdom of this book. It draws one into the central questions of Ecclesiastes, while immersing the reader in the complex lives of the artists it describes. The hardest thing about this book was putting it down. 😄

While encountering so many different students and courses, I recognized that most students had forgotten crucial information from previous classes and did not know how to navigate textbooks to find what they were looking for. For this reason, I combed through all math and physics courses and isolated all equations and formulas in one easy-to-reference text. I also included many notes, tips, and tricks covering situations that are usually quite simple but often misunderstood. I hope my collection of formulas, equations, and advice helps you through Calculus 1 (Differential).

I have not looked at the PDF that came with this purchase. The 20 minute audio is a reading of the table of contents and some supplemental info. I was looking for an audio to accompany my reading. This is no better than purchasing a book from the bookstore.

Did you know that subsidized goods often cost us more than we'd pay for them in the free market? In fact, we sometimes pay for goods that will never exist at all. It turns out that the free market in America is anything but. How did a system designed to safeguard American farmers turn into the nation's biggest scam? Most of us don't know what subsidies are and don't think they affect us directly, so we tune out. But they have an enormous impact on all of us.

I was interested in farm subsidies after listening to books by Thomas Sowell. This is not an economics book, but it is a policy one. I was a bit thrown-off by blanket references to the ills of corporate America and Wall Street greed. However, I found the statements about how subsidies affect third world countries, the kinds of foods we eat and sweeteners we use, the types of fishing we engage in, and the way we treat the soil/ land to be very interesting. Overall, I learned from this book, but not in the ways I expected to learn. It was a worthwhile listen.

In this panorama, subtitled The 1930s in America, Frederick Lewis Allen combines an eye for the significant trivia of everyday existence with a facility for neatly dissecting the political monoliths of the era. Whether discussing the varieties of bathtub gin or elucidating Keynesian economics, Allen displays, in the words of Edward Weeks of The Atlantic, "a talent for terse and telling resume which is the envy of any historian."

Riveting and Insightful
Revisado: 07-24-21
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Since Yesterday and it’s predecessor, Only Yesterday. I regret that the two tales have ended and look forward to reading more of Frederick Lewis Allen as well as reading The War of the Worlds from 1938. The only issue I had with this audiobook was the occasional and brief repetition of certain sections. I could easily ignore that problem, especially as I was cleaning and painting while listening to this audiobook.
