I started it, so I finished it, but what a waste of my time. This was terrible all the way around, from narration to writing.

Being 40 is supposed to be freaking fabulous, not fatal. Taking on a daunting new job minus the description isn’t the smartest move I’ve ever made, even if it was to save a friend. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn out to be the stupidest...or deadliest. Why can’t things stay the way they were? I love my old job. Supergluing ghosts back together and solving their issues is its own reward. Not to mention, I’m seriously good at it. Although, I must say, I’m ridiculously excited for the new Death Counselor’s arrival in nine months....

This is a fun series.
Revisado: 04-21-24
I’m enjoying this series and it’s lighthearted humor. This isn’t my typical genre but at the end of each book I want to go on to the next. The only thing that sorta bugs me is the swearing but not how you would think. Just cuss and swear already! The mother deciding which swear words are “ok” is ridiculous when said to 40+ year old women.
Also, I think some backstory on some of the angels and demons - how they came about would make it more interesting. For example: when books talk about Greek mythology the backstory is usually included. That would be nice with these books whether you believe in god, heaven, hell or ghosts.
Still, they’re fun and easy reads. I normally read darker murder mystery and thriller type books(I especially enjoy when they are set in Scotland, Ireland or England) when I’m not reading Neil Gaimon or books such as The Seven Husbands of Helen Hugo, Wally Lamb and my all-time favorite author Craig Johnson of the Longmire books series. Craig sets up his characters so realistic they start becoming old friends that you want to catch up with while sending them out on county Sheriff duties. Along with some very interesting and mystical Native folklore. If you like these books, you will most likely fall in love with the Longmire series, Craig’s writing is top notch and worth any credits you spend. You will want to go back and re-read them.

Audible, bring this podcast over here instead of leaving it at Spotify!
Im really glad they included this podcast sample. I’ve never heard of it before and enjoyed it.
I’m not always a podcast fan but, I plan on finding this one and listening to more. Things like this are a nice break between books or if you’re distracted and you don’t have the ability to concentrate on a book at the moment but, you want something to listen to. The episode wasn’t too long, wasn’t too short it was just right. His voice is very nice and doesn’t irritate or put you to sleep lol. I enjoyed the way he shares his thoughts, and how he talks to his guests in a way to make them feel comfortable, if that makes sense? Sometimes w/podcasts it’s all the ads that bug me (I know they need to pay the bills but they bug me anyway) sometimes the ads aren’t as intrusive and the podcast can feel a bit narcissistic. They feel like they’re so full of themselves that everyone will want to listen to them or I get the feeling they just love the sound of their own voice. I didn’t feel any of these things. Gonna go find more episodes now. Happy holidays everyone.

I am sad for those that did not enjoy this book
Revisado: 11-04-23
I truly am sad for those that did not enjoy this book. Maybe they have never given much thought to the road they did not travel and the one they did. Maybe they do not have children that love hearing about their parents stories. Maybe maybe maybe…
I loved this book, so much, I found myself taking breaks so that I would not be done too quickly. Alas I’m to the end and as I do with all of Ann’s books, wonder at her writing. For me, her books make me feel a few things usually sad they’ve come to an end. Many of her books invoke a feeling of listening to a movie playing and my imagination goes into gear. Ann’s works are the few that I truly enjoy this genre. I usually am taken towards mysteries and police especially if they are set in Ireland, Scotland or Britain.
I think the only other author I enjoy in the genre is William Kent Krueger, especially his stand alone novels.
This is a book I will want to listen to again. I think most will thoroughly enjoy themselves listening to Marel tell this story of the past and the present, what we choose to tell our children and what we hold back. Enjoy!

A good listen between books!
Revisado: 08-30-23
I would love a Part 3 - following up on any possible relationships between the children and the bio father, especially with some of the older children becoming adults and able to make their own decisions about meeting. And a more in-depth follow up of how the donor is doing. Dov Fox, you did an excellent job all the way around; I really would like to hear more from you. I am adopted and have known since my earliest memory- it was never a secret. I recently found some of my birth family. So this podcast hit me in my heart. If any of you are adopted and thinking of listening- do it! I was not from a sperm donor, but many issues adoptees have we share many of the same feelings of these children born from sperm donation.
I listened to part 1 and part 2 both held my attention and were very interesting. Both the episodes and the 2 separate parts were not too long and not too short. In the beginning a couple of the women’s voices sounded similar and I had a hard time remembering who was who, but I soon could tell them apart.
In Part 2 - the mom who agreed to meet the bio father- she didn’t hold any punches and asked some hard questions of the bio father - in person not over the phone or in a keyboard warrior type of way. She really got down to business. I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I will leave it at that.
Thanks Dov,
You did an excellent job. I think this was ad emotionally draining for you as well as the participants. Can’t wait to see any other podcasts you may do.

Some of the best humor along with a good character driven mystery
Revisado: 03-05-23
Psa: the books are really nothing like the television show, the books are so much better! I can’t watch the series, for me, it just strayed too much from the books.
This is probably one of my very favorite books of this series and its dry wit never fails to make me laugh, even after reading all of this entire series at least 5 times, but it’s probably more. I found this author during the pandemic, I quickly caught up and I have come back to this series over and over again.
Mystery, good interesting characters that you want to keep learning about. These novels are police procedurals. Actually I should say Sheriff procedurals, done the right. Characters you care about, wit, mystery and current topics, extremely well written. Start at the beginning, if you want to get to know the characters, but you can read these books as individual novels, but there will be some storylines that will have a bigger impact if you have read the books in order. If you’re new to the series, welcome aboard. See ya on the trail.

Don’t pass up this book! Great narration. A narrator can make or break a book and this was a great match. The story is uplifting and laugh out loud or sometimes just a little giggle. Either way I’ll take anything that can make me smile right now.
if you’re wondering wtf am I doing with my life. I think this book will especially hit home for you, Even if you’re not feeling like that right now, I bet you have at one time or another. This book will strike a chord with you.
Fun and light, but also real, and perfect for us f--k ups ;)

Good book and just in time, as I’ve been in a reading rut. The subject is tough, but a needed conversation and highlights our current issues. There was humor, but I did miss the extra humor that has been in past books. Would love to have a new That F*ckin’ Flowers stand alone novel come out, even though I do like Virgil and Lucas together. I’d also like to have more of Frankie and Weather and the kids.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see how Virgil’s novels take off.
Happy holidays and happy reading my fellow Flowers and Lucas fans!

Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

First let me say a little PSA~ if you have not read the previous books in this series, this is not the book to start with, even with some back story included, you the reader, would be very lost. So, go read the series and then absolutely come back for this one.
Hell and back is definitely one you don’t want to miss! Thought provoking, powerful, and I have a feeling, pivotal for the rest of the series.
As always, Craig leaves me craving more of Walt, Henry, Vic, of course Dog, and the rest of our Longmire family. Take a bow Mr. Johnson!
