Historia
A unique blend of memoir, research, and cultural criticism, this is a searing and incisive examination into how we tell stories about mental illness, how that affects how we treat it, and how those with mental illness can begin to take control of their own stories through fantasy and fiction.

The author, KJ Aiello, is so brave, they put their vulnerability right there in the audio and share their hopes & dreams. I love that this is the author reading, it makes the story that much more compelling. Definitely going to listen twice!

I never understand poetry if I just read the hard copy; I finally GET this, hearing the author (poet Wakefield Brewster)! This is really powerful stuff, and listening to the audible is definitely the way to get the most out of it. Recommend!

Like a great mentoring session
Revisado: 08-19-21
I loved this audiobook, even more than I enjoyed the e-book. Hearing the author read the stories and advice was like having a personal mentoring session with him. His explanation of the economics of the Hourly Rate really opened my eyes to the pressures that law firms operate under. A great listen, altogether.

Masterful narration of a chilling story
Revisado: 03-27-21
I listened to this story twice, it was that well-told! It starts with the utterly chilling spectre of a corpse returning to the world, hundreds of years in the future, wreaking havoc. I won’t give away the end, but, oh my!, it is classic Bradbury.
Narrator C. James Moore perfectly captures the main character’s confusion and rage at finding himself once again among the living. I could feel the cold detachment of not caring if others live or die, and the despair when he realizes he is alone in the world.
I wish this short story was longer! Well worth the credit, and I hope Moore narrates more of Bradbury’s work.

Historia
David and Sara Kirke live in a time of upheaval under the reign of King Charles I, who gives and then takes. He gives David the nod of approval to range up and down the French Canadian shores, burning colonies and pillaging ships that are loaded with goods meant for the French. When Louis XIII of France shouts his outrage, King Charles reneges. He takes David’s prizes and returns them to the French, putting David and his family in dire straits. Undeterred, David and Sara will not be denied. After years, the king relents.

Great story, great narrator
Revisado: 06-23-20
This is a really great story, and so nice to read about the early history of Newfoundland. Loved the intrigue, the plot twists, and all the details about the period that the authors got precisely right.
The narrator, Marianne Robinson was easy to listen to, and she made the characters come alive for me - I will get her next audiobook.

Useful info in this short book
Revisado: 11-05-19
This is actually a very short book, followed by two hours of excerpts of Melissa Caudle's other audiobooks. So, be forewarned, you're not getting four hours of marketing advice. That said, though, there were lots of great tips and ideas that I will use. The narrator over-enunciates, and takes a little getting used to.

Historia
Released not long after President John F. Kennedy's assassination, in the run-up to the 1964 national election, Eugene Burdick's blockbuster political novel, The 480, foresaw the rise of social media and 21st century analytical data manipulation, the use of computer-generated voter profiles to shape-for better or for worse - the outcome of a major national election. Burdick - coauthor of The Ugly American and Fail-Safe - was a true socio-political visionary, ahead of his time by more than half a century.

Listen to this book before Election 2020!
Revisado: 05-21-19
This audiobook sends chills up my spine! The story is so vivid that it felt like a memoir more than fiction; that's how real it was for me. Every American (red or blue) should get this book to see how easy it is to be influenced.
The narrator nailed it; the character voices, especially the female voices, were all distinctive and believable.

Couldn't finish listening
Revisado: 09-09-18
I know this is an autobiography, but seriously, this guy is so full of false humility even my kids started making fun of him. Imagine hearing someone say, for hours and hours, "my biggest fault is that I'm too modest about my incredible accomplishments". It wore thin after a short time.
This could have been such a great story about a person who really has accomplished some remarkable things - why didn't the ghost-writer/co-author try to tame the false humility down a little?

Potentially dull book saved by narrator
Revisado: 03-06-18
I got this audiobook because of the fascinating topic, but almost stopped listening because of the ponderous, academic writing style. Johnny Heller somehow managed to keep me engaged, until the final few chapters that were written in a lighter, more "listenable " way. Perhaps the two authors should have collaborated more closely than each writing his/her own chapters.

Historia
Christina McMullen, psychologist extraordinaire, has problems - not least of which are her needy clients, a schizophrenic septic system, and her sizzling-then-fizzling romance with Lieutenant Jack Rivera. Okay, so she secretly hopes the vertically challenged computer geek has harmlessly departed from Elaine's life - after all, there's no evidence to suggest foul play. But when her razor-sharp instincts, honed by years as a cocktail waitress, start screaming, she'll have to use her skills.

This story made me laugh - Chrissy gets herself into a ton of trouble just trying to help her friend, and every step just gets her in deeper. I loved the narrator's voice! Every character had the perfect, nuanced voice, so I could practically see them. Definitely will be following this series
