Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Can't believe I used to call this boring.
Revisado: 05-20-24
I don't know if it's Andy's performance or the fact that I've lived more life than when I was forced to read this in middle school, but I shed some tears by the end of this story this time around. I hope it get's a worthy adaptation some day.
I'll be revisiting this book for years to come.

Historia
When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

I'm too old for this
Revisado: 12-19-22
I think if I was like 12-13 this would have enticed me. I made it to about the 3 hour mark and man has it been a struggle to pick this back up.
The world seems interesting enough, but the title chatacter is so bland to me.
I get the feeling Eragon was supposed to be a blank slate for pre teens to project themselves into. Seeing as I am almost triple that demographic age wise; I think I jumped in too late.
I dunno, gonna pass on this one.

Resident Evil: Revalations 3
Revisado: 08-18-22
Spoilers:
If you are fan of the resident evil games you will most likely enjoy this book. Soldiers and scientists fighting to stop a global pandemic, released by men who think they're saving the human race blah blah blah. But here's a twist on the genre - the heroes succeed! Turns out not every author wants to kick you between the legs on the last page.
The characters and villains are cheesy, the dialog filled with one liners and cliché back stories, but nothing so bad as the RE movies.
I would have liked a bit more infected action, maybe have one of the air ports go full infestation to be cleansed before the end. I kind of felt like that's what the London airport was leading up to. The survivor's desperate struggle to survive as they're trapped inside with the infected.
Don't get me wrong; World War Z is my Bible, but I think I prefer stories of smaller outbreaks to world endings. I think that's why Shaun of the dead is my favorite zombie movie. All the action with none of TheWalkingDead depression. That's what this is.
Ultimately I enjoyed the ride, saccharine happy ending and all. Cynicism is getting really old in the zombie genre.
The narrator needs to work on his female voices, but he's fine.
4/5 Good effort.

A magical serial killer is on the loose, and gelatinous, otherworldly creatures are infesting the English countryside. Which is making life for the Ministry of Occultism difficult, because magic is supposed to be their best kept secret. After centuries in the shadows, the Ministry is forced to unmask, exposing the country's magical history - and magical citizens - to a brave new world of social media, government scrutiny, and public relations.

Youtubers doing better than "professionals"
Revisado: 05-17-22
Contemporary fantasy vs woke idealism collide and make a beautiful love child that never feels like it's punching down or strawman-ing too much. Fence sitting yes, but the view is quite lovely.
The characters are well realized and well performed by Yahtz to the point where I found my big brother senses tingling when Dr. D was picking on Alison. I was actively praying for him to get layed out which; spoiler alert, he does and there is some catharsis in the moment but it's at a point where you may have started to like his whacky flamboyance so... yeah.
I must say the cover is a bit misleading. I thought the story was going to go in a sort of x-files direction so I went in expecting that kind of thing. I'm not disappointed by where the story ended up; but when I look back at the cover after having finished, I do notice a disconnect. Almost like the artist didn't read the book. And if that's the case, they are missing out
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to buy the sequel.

Historia
Though still mourning his recent loss, George Orton is surprisingly content. He's living in a secure compound where teenaged werewolf Ally is being trained to control her animalistic tendencies, and mad science experiment Eugene has regained most of his sanity. George knows they can't stay there forever, but for now, things are pretty good. Then he receives some shocking news: People at the compound have brought his partner and best friend Lou back to life. Not as a flesh-eating zombie; he's the old Lou, as much of a wiseass as before.

probably the happiest ending you'll get out of a Jeff Strand story, without sacrificing the violence. Scott Thomas is great at bringing every character to life as always. Great series.

"He saw me for me"
Revisado: 06-02-16
That line is when I knew this series was not for me. I've yet to read a ZA novel written by a women author that didn't eventually boil down to one of those adult romance novels your mom used to read, with some zombies every now and again.
Seriously there's an entire section of this book that sounds like a story about Stockholm syndrome and the romantic implications there in. Leading to a very graphic sex scene that makes it impossible for me to share this with friends and family. Half forgot I was even listening to a zombie novel.
The main character is annoying her love interest is one step above the "guys from twilight" all brooding and mysterious and what not. And the other characters are completely forgettable and poorly portrayed.
Finally the authors catchphrases are blaring throughout. Two of which include "my mind was happy to supply." And "what felt like a small eternity"
Just to clarify I don't consider this book to be utter garbage, just not for me. And now you know why.
