Historia
As one of the few black students in his philosophy program at Columbia University years ago, Coleman Hughes wondered why his peers seemed more pessimistic about the state of American race relations than his own grandparents–who lived through segregation. The End of Race Politics is the culmination of his years-long search for an answer.

Excellent!!!
Revisado: 05-12-24
You have heard it before, but this is truly a must read. Should be read in high school before one enters college or trade school. His discussion seems to be common sense and he writes with such clarity yet the fact we so desperately need a book like this for our society to hear and understand demonstrates the devastation of neoracist thought. Thank you, Mr. Coleman Hughes.

Historia
As a divided nation plunges into the deepest crisis in its history, Abraham Lincoln boards a train for Washington and his inauguration - an inauguration Southerners have vowed to prevent by any means necessary. Drawing on new research, this account reveals the president-elect as a work in progress, showing him on the verge of greatness, foiling an assassination attempt, and forging an unbreakable bond with the American people.

Fred Sanders does a great job. Don’t be swayed by some of the negative reviews. Wonderful and amazing story which only adds to my amazement of this “common” man named Lincoln.

As my 12 year old struggles with newly diagnosed AN, this book was of great benefit to me as I learn to battle this dreadful illness with her. It provides an excellent perspective of the distorted thoughts that plague those afflicted with this disease. Some criticized her for advertising her blog but for those suffering with eating disorders, her blog is a godsend. Thank you Danielle for sharing your story and giving hope to those with this illness and for the family members, like me, that are mystified by this strange affliction. AN causes an incredible mixture of emotions for family members and this book gave me greater empathy for my daughter!!

Historia
Millions of families are affected by eating disorders, which usually strike young women between the ages of fourteen and twenty. But current medical practice ties these families' hands when it comes to helping their children recover. Conventional medical wisdom dictates separating the patient from the family and insists that 'it's not about the food', even as a family watches a child waste away before their eyes.

Amazing! H. Brown's story resonates with our own
Revisado: 03-09-21
Truly an excellent portrayal of AN. Our daughter was diagnosed one month ago and this book spoke to me deeply. She shares a lot of valuable data, especially regarding the Maudsley approach, highlighting certain studies, reviewing Ancel Keys' experiment, and emphasizing the importance of aiming toward a goal weight based on one's own growth chart data and not a useless BMI. The descriptions of Kitty, especially her "not-Kitty" are absolutely spot on. It's what we see in our daughter. She is not herself, takes on a different persona, filled with rage, and even her tone of speech is altered. It is very sad. Harriet Brown's book is a vital read for those struggling with a family member with AN. Thank you, Harriet Brown, for sharing your story and your wisdom. I wish the book had not ended - I wanted - actually, needed to hear more advice. I know I have a long road ahead but knowing I'm not alone provides some strength and encouragement. Ignore an overly analytic, negative review of this book, rating it as two stars and criticizing her labeling the AN as "anti-Kitty". The review is short-sighted and irritating to those who are struggling with a loved one - the reviewer is clearly devoid of any knowledge of an eating disorder. For those fortunate to not have a family member with AN, read this book and be thankful but from our perspective, it is a very accurate account. You can't argue with an eating disorder. The cognitive distortions skew any ability to see reality. It may be the AN's reality - and trapped they are in this distorted thinking - but the approach of a caregiver labeling this as something "different" (not-Kitty) is important and a healthy approach in coping and maintaining a reminder of who your child really is and what your anger should be directed at.

Historia
Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Great listen. Don't be fooled by the few reviews that are bothered by references to Jesus. These are few and only highlight that important aspect of his life but do not influence the message of this book and how well it is presented. Also, don't be bothered by the few reviews that note frustration that Becker does not tell you "how". I believe he does. In fact, I sent to my father, who in his eighties does not like to throw anything away. Accumulating things for years. Not only did he listen to the entire book but he started throwing things out with energy and motivation. Amazing progress!

Historia
Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

Highly recommended! I've listened to Perlmuter's "Brain Grain" and Taubes' "Why We Get Fat" - both excellent but I rate this one slightly better. Informative, entertaining and potentially life changing. Davis does a great job reviewing the basics. He certainly does not like wheat and after listening, you may not either. I've lost that afternoon fatigue and thank wheat elimination.

Historia
The only true and unedited telling of the life of Christ - his life and times,in historical context, but not lacking the psychology behind his physical being and spirit. Unlike other books seeking to strip Jesus' story to reveal only the human being, Romano Guardini's The Lord gives the complete story of Jesus Christ - as man, Holy Ghost, and Creator. Pope Benedict XVI lauds Guardini's work as providing a full understanding of the Son of God away from the prejudice that rationality engenders.

Masterpiece!
Revisado: 04-19-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Lord to be better than the print version?
Only had the audio version but this book is so important, I now own the book as well.
What did you like best about this story?
This classic provides short meditations (about 20 minutes) on the life of Christ - motivational and inspiring. Although the length is intimidating, once you start listening, you will know you have discovered a treasure. I finished it during Lent, helping me draw closer to the Lord, and plan to keep it on my phone for periodic re-listens and plan to listen again in its entirety next holy season.
Any additional comments?
Narration is wonderful. Although ideal for 20 minutes listens given the short chapters, Gordon Greenhill's voice does not tire allowing for much longer listens.
