Characters very well created
Revisado: 10-12-22
my biggest complaint in listening to a new book is the characters seem so phony, not real in their dialogue or actions.
I love the characters in this book. I can relate to them like I know them personally. Great writing.

Historia
Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

Seems Politically Motivated
Revisado: 09-14-17
What did you like best about The Home Front: Life in America During World War II? What did you like least?
Starts out great. Learned quite a bit about how the years prior to the war affected how the nation wanted to avoid getting involved in foreign nation's problems. From the middle on, it seems that the focus of the series was how white Americans were primarily racist bigots. Whites hated women, they hated blacks, they hated the Asians, they hated the Mexicans, they hated the Germans, they hated the Italians, etc.The book veers from the war and concentrates on how the majority of Americans treated minorities.I realize there was and is racism present in America but most citizens were and are honest, hard working people that are for equality. If I wanted to listen to a series on racism, I would download "Racism in America during WWII"
Would you ever listen to anything by Audible Original again?
Probably but I will make sure it's not political rhetoric trying to be forced upon me.
Any additional comments?
Where is all the patriotism that was prevalent in America during the war?
Isn't that truly what life was like during WWII?

In the same vein as To Kill a Mockingbird, Ordinary Grace is a coming of age novel that took me back to a time gone by and I so enjoyed being there but at the same time miss those days long gone. I honestly miss spending time with Frank and Jake now that it's over.

Time to Move On
Revisado: 12-22-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The bitterness is understandable. Anyone that experiences the horrors of war for no real purpose deserves to be bitter. Nothing should change about the story even though the times have changed and the importance has unfortunately dwindled.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I think the bitterness that can be felt in the narration starts to grind on you. Life is difficult enough without having your week dragged down by the unfairness of the Vietnam War.
Any additional comments?
I remember the 60s and was right there in that frame of mind, then but not now. Life goes on and you do the best you can and don't look back.

Historia
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Twisted Women All in a Row
Revisado: 12-22-16
What did you like best about Sharp Objects? What did you like least?
Astoundingly creative! Unless you are under the care of a psychiatrist, you'll never see what's coming next.
If you’ve listened to books by Gillian Flynn before, how does this one compare?
I didn't give this story more that 3 stars because it just seems that Gillian Flynn hates women or maybe it's that as a man it kind of scares me to think these femme fatales are lurking around in the real world waiting to pounce.
What does Ann Marie Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She adds the spice to the cooking and makes it tasty.
Do you think Sharp Objects needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I'm ready for something totally different from Gillian Flynn. She's such a creative force. I just want to see what she can create outside of sick in the head women.

Historia
A terrible darkness has fallen upon Jacob Weisz’s beloved Germany. The Nazi regime, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, has surged to power and now hold Germany by the throat. All non-Aryans - especially Jews like Jacob and his family - are treated like dogs. When tragedy strikes during one terrible night of violence, Jacob flees and joins rebel forces working to undermine the regime. But after a raid goes horribly wrong, Jacob finds himself in a living nightmare - trapped in a crowded, stinking car on the train to the Auschwitz death camp.

The Holocaust - Front & Center
Revisado: 12-22-16
What made the experience of listening to The Auschwitz Escape the most enjoyable?
So well written that you think you're reading an autobiography. I can't stress enough how important it is that we never forget what took place in Eastern Europe during WWII and this book will certainly help in that quest; exciting and horrid all in one masterful work.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jacob Weisz for his coming of age journey in survival and humanity.
What about Christopher Lane’s performance did you like?
The realness of his narration kept me mesmerized. It's as if he experienced the horrors himself. He is hired to make the story come alive and he does it so well, especially with such a difficult topic.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
From page 1 to the end, you cannot escape being moved. This evil happened to real people like you and me. How can you not be impacted down to the pit of your stomach?
Any additional comments?
Books like The Auschwitz Escape come along once in a blue moon. They take you on a ride that when it's all over, you are never the same. WELL DONE Joel C. Rosenberg!
