If you’ve never heard of the Cortisol Detox Diet, you definitely need to check this book out. It illuminates how cortisol significantly impacts our ability to control our weight - sometimes even more than our food choices. The book goes into how cortisol works, how it interacts with other hormones and even our circadian rhythm to impact our weight loss journey. The book contains a number of tips on how to time meals and exercise, as well as seemingly small things such as coffee consumption to manage cortisol levels over time. In addition to the expected food recommendations, the author includes a number of lifestyle interventions and other techniques to manage stress and cortisol.

If you’re looking for a solid overview of social media marketing, this is the book for you. While it focuses primarily on physical products and affiliate marketing, it covers a wide variety of social media marketing strategies. Overviews of all the social media platforms, as well as the best ways to leverage them, were extensively covered. I particularly included the guidance on website design and SEO, topics not usually explored in social media marketing. The best part was how it covers content creation and planning.

If you’re serious about personal change, you know how important changing your habits can be. This book takes a bit of a different approach to habit formation and change. In addition to the usual background on habits, it creates a more specific planning sequence to ensure you’re putting your effort into changing the habits that will make the biggest impact for you. Models such as a personal Strength - Weakness - Opportunities - Threat analysis, creating SMART goals, and other tools commonly used in other areas of our life make it easy to understand the change frameworks. Lots of examples and exercises reinforce those change frameworks and makes things easy to understand.

It covers the essentials to make sure you’re ready to buy a home and ensuring you’re clear on your homeownership goals and needs. In addition, it highlights all the various steps and aspects of the process. This includes things that aren’t often talked about, such as homeowner inspections and how best to select a realtor.

This book is an excellent introduction to day trading, which adds a new set of tools for trading. The author takes care to give an excellent overview of all the various trading instruments (options, futures, etc.) and various markets to include currencies and crypto. He consistently provides recommendations for tools and trading platforms, as well as how to best leverage them for trading success. Of course, candlestick and technical trading analysis is covered in depth, as well as how to develop a solid trading system. Tips on how to learn trading systems from more successful traders was a welcome addition. Overall, a very accessible and well crafted introduction.

The relationship advice space is filled with books on how to handle conflict, recover and heal from anxious or avoidant attachment styles, how to properly find and vet a partner. But little to no attention is given to how to have an actual supportive, healthy relationship. Maybe because so many of us are trying to find a way to fix our relationship patterns that so little is said about healthy ones. This book fills that important gap, and gives us a glimpse of what a healthy, supportive relationship can look and feel like. The focus on small, consistent effort is such a refreshing departure from the usual advice about grand gestures. I am excited to start implementing these tools to help nurture and grow my next relationship.

A very deep and thorough dive into AI

I was very impressed by this extensive exploration of the implications of AI. The author takes a more expansive view of AI, tracing efforts to duplicate the human mind and form throughout history. Placing AI in the context of a much longer process to understand and duplicate humanity gives this book a unique perspective. I was totally unaware that modern AI efforts actually began back in 1956 for example! The book gives is typically extensive deep dive into the current state of play, talking about how the current models developed and the challenges they currently face. From there, he pivots to talking about what’s coming down the road - all the ways AI can develop in the future. The author doesn’t shy away from talking about either side of the topic, all the good and bad ways things can go, all the threats and opportunities. All the conflicting views from different cultures and countries. But the concept that intrigued me the most was his idea of co-evolution: how the course of human development will be shaped by and in conjunction with AI. That offers some very exciting possibilities that the author explores in depth. An outstanding book with exceptional depth!

I wish I had found this book years ago. I’ve been in many toxic relationships over the years, and this book would have been incredibly helpful back then to see the signs earlier. This particular book goes deep into the various tactics toxic people use to control the relationship and get their needs met at the expense of our own. It gives very practical tips, with solid backing from various therapy types, to challenge and overcome these tactics. It also gives a clear outline of how to find your own traumas and insecurities that drive our tendency to get into toxic relationships in the first place. Finally being able to realize our worth, set healthy boundaries, and exit toxic relationships can be one of the most powerful things we can do for ourselves.
