On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln. Haller is immediately charged with murder but can’t post the exorbitant $5 million bail. Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in downtown Los Angeles. Don't buy "book track edition"
Revisado: 10-18-22
This was a very good book but do not buy the book track edition. The background music that supposedly makes it more like a movie is irritating, interfering, and simply unnecessary. by the end of the first chapter I had had enough and was almost going to send the book back and get a non book track edition.

Historia
A Bridge Too Far is Cornelius Ryan’s masterly chronicle of the Battle of Arnhem, which marshaled the greatest armada of troop-carrying aircraft ever assembled and cost the Allies nearly twice as many casualties as D-day. In this compelling work of history, Ryan narrates the Allied effort to end the war in Europe in 1944 by dropping the combined airborne forces of the American and British armies behind German lines to capture the crucial bridge across the Rhine at Arnhem. Focusing on a vast cast of characters, Ryan brings to life one of the most ill-fated operations of the war.

Historia
In August 1968 NASA made a bold decision: In just 16 weeks, the United States would launch humankind's first flight to the moon. Only the year before, three astronauts had burned to death in their spacecraft, and since then the Apollo program had suffered one setback after another. Meanwhile, the Russians were winning the space race, the Cold War was getting hotter by the month, and President Kennedy's promise to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade seemed sure to be broken.

Apollo 8 - NASA shines!
Revisado: 06-17-22
this book reveals the detail and intensity of a mission like this that goes completely unnoticed when one is an observer to the mission from Earth and from a television set. I was alive and in high school when this occurred and much of what happened was obviously unseen with the detailed issues that arose never truly arising on the television broadcast. Like many professions, the astronauts endured unbelievable training that provided them with the skills to navigate an unbelievable mission. This is one of those books that goes by quickly and even though you know the result, you are literally on the edge of your seat when you hear some of the problems that arose. As one of the other reviewers stated, this is one of those books that could easily be read again and enjoyed a second time.

Historia
Twilight of the Gods is a riveting account of the harrowing last year of World War II in the Pacific, when the US Navy won the largest naval battle in history; MacArthur made good his pledge to return to the Philippines; waves of kamikazes attacked the Allied fleets; the Japanese fought to the last man on one island after another; B-29 bombers burned down Japanese cities; and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were vaporized. Toll's narratives of combat in the air, at sea, and on the beaches are gripping, but he also takes the listener into the halls of power in Washington and Tokyo.

War Writing's Finest Hour
Revisado: 02-16-21
This series about the Pacific War is the finest combination of writing about strategic and personal stories that I have ever read . . . and I read almost exclusively about the history of war and its leading historic figures. The cast expanse of this trilogy is breathtaking but it reads smoothly and efficiently. I learned so many new details about all of the battles that it is almost like I had never read anything previously about the Pacific War.

Historia
The career of the USS Wahoo in sinking Japanese ships in the farthest reaches of the Empire is legendary in submarine circles. Christened three months after Pearl Harbor, Wahoo was commanded by the astonishing Dudley W. "Mush" Morton, whose originality and daring new techniques led to results unprecedented in naval history; among them, successful "down the throat" barrage against an attacking Japanese destroyer, voracious surface-running gun attacks, and the sinking of a four-ship convoy in one day.

The Reader Ruined It
Revisado: 01-10-21
it is rare that I do not finish an Audible book. However, this reader was so unprofessional because of his monotonous style that I just stopped. Most readers could have given a better performance than he did.

Historia
Vietnam became the Western world’s most divisive modern conflict, precipitating a battlefield humiliation for France in 1954, then a vastly greater one for the US in 1975. Max Hastings has spent the past three years interviewing scores of participants on both sides, as well as researching a multitude of American and Vietnamese documents and memoirs, to create an epic narrative of an epic struggle. Here are the vivid realities of strife amid jungle and paddies that killed two million people.

Wow!
Revisado: 03-29-19
this was a stunningly well written and direct history of the Vietnam war and Americas involvement in it. it brings a sense of truth furnace to the table that is not been seen previously, even in Pryor histories. it is not apologetic and it is not pretty. the author has a style of writing that is his and his alone and one that is very easy to listen to. my only criticism of this presentation is the pronunciation of some of the words buy the reader. Even though he is a British reader, there are some words that are pronounced in a way that I don't think anybody in great Britain would ever consider. You would have to listen to the book to understand what I mean. Nevertheless, the and products of all of this is a masterpiece worth listening to.

review
Revisado: 10-12-17
the major problem with this book is that the English is intermittently translated to German and it becomes extremely annoying and totally unnecessary for an English-speaking reader / listener. It was so irritating that I decided to do something that I rarely do which is never finished the book.
