Revisado: 05-24-22
I really cared for the characters in this book. The bad guy was one messed up dude. Got a little too graphic for me in places. I think this story just needed 50 more pages to really blossom. Felt it was a little rushed and that it wrapped up too prettily

Some things I figured out from the get go, some things I really didn't. But one thing I will never figure out is how anyone could ever have fallen for the antagonist. I get it, he was supposed to be a bad guy, but I like people to have a little more complexity. Entertaining otherwise

Weirdly biased in a way, unlikable and very superficial main characters. I didn't feel any sympathy for most of them

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

This was just so cute and lovely. The author really knows how to write sweet guys. Not as funny as the first one but still hit me in the feels. Feel good book if there ever was one

Very cute romance
Revisado: 05-27-20
My favorite one in the series so far. Nya and Johan were so cute and sweet together, I could really tell they genuinely cared for each other.
I loved Nya's journey to be her own person and get out from under her father's thumb, and how she learned to trust herself again. And how Johan learned to be the person he really was, and that he was actually great that way all along. I loved their mutual respect and the love that grew between them.
I also loved the family dynamics in here, and again the strong message about sellf-acceptance. The way Nya would play a dating sim was also very cute, and it made me smile
The reason why this disn't get a 5 star from me is that I just didn't love their chemistry

Historia
To be a Docile is to be kept, body and soul, for the uses of the owner of your contract. To be a Docile is to forget, to disappear, to hide inside your body from the horrors of your service. To be a Docile is to sell yourself to pay your parents' debts and buy your children's future. Elisha Wilder’s family has been ruined by debt, handed down to them from previous generations. His mother never recovered from the Dociline she took during her term as a Docile, so when Elisha decides to try and erase the family’s debt himself, he swears he will never take the drug.

Not one I'll read again
Revisado: 05-27-20
Ok, Let me be honest here and not claim that I bought this book for any kind of elevated reason. I read somewhere that this was "50 shades done right" and I was intrigued.
This is about a future society where peope amass great quantities of debt very easily. And poeple who rack up too much debt get thrown in prison. There is one way to pay off debt "easily', and that is to sell yourself into servitude to a wealthy patron'.
But then, they own you and can make you do whatever they want. To make this a little more palatable. people can take a drug called Dociline, that will take your memories away, and will make you more compliant. After you stop taking it the effects will wear off after two weeks that's the party line anyway.
We follow Elisha, a young man, who decides to sell off his family''s debt, but since his mother got back after her term, she never was herself again, and he is determined never to take Dociline.
Alex, the man who buys him, doesn't know this at first, but he's under so much pressure of his own, because his family made Dociline, and he decides the only way to make the good impression his dad wants of him is to break Elishia's will..
And you see the beginning of that procress happen in this book. It was difficult to read about, but that's not the problem I had with this book. It was very black and white in my opinion, everything wrapped up much too easily, and the story stopped when things got really interesting. The bigger picture never got resolved
I also think things between Elisha and Alex never came to a head, I kind of wanted one really explosive scene between them
I really liked Elisha reclaiming himself as a person and the dynamics with his family. I just kind of hate Alex and his asinine worldviews. For such an educated person it really seemed like he never learned to question anything. And he grew a backbone way too late in this story.
Despite that, this book really kept my interest, but I don't feel this book had a profound message to teach me, and I don't know if I would recommend it to anyone.
And while I wouldn't necessarily call the 50 shades trilogy good books, heck I never even finished the third one, I still enjoyed/ liked them better than I did this
The narration was fine, but I think Alex was overly shout-y, and I also think Elisha sounded whin, but that can just be because he's younger and a lot less confident as Alex' character is

A story mostly about Ciri!
Revisado: 05-27-20
This is basically the story of how Ciri grew up, trained to be a Witcher and then learned to be a sorceress, and I really liked it. A lot of good dialogue and character moments. Really grew to love Yennifer. I liked we got to see a little of Triss and the other Witchers. I thought this had a lot of tender and amusing moments, especially between Yennifer and Ciri. Not a lot of Geralt or action, though
Peter Kenny was great, as usual, but he does say dan-dil-lion in this one again, though

Finally a linear story
Revisado: 05-27-20
3.5
Geralt loses his swords in this one, which seems to enact Murphy's Law for him, so he sets out to get them back, but that isn't as easy as he thought it was going to be.
I know it's an unpopular opinion but this is my favorite Witcher book so far, I think it has a lot to do with it being one story, so it's linear. Would have liked to see more Yennifer and some Ciri
The narration was great in this one, as always

Good Redemption arc for Hugh
Revisado: 05-27-20
So, basically this is a marriage of convenience story with to second to main bad guy from the Kate Daniels series, Hugh D'Ambray. He needs a base, and Elora needs people te defend her people; that where the marriage part comes in. They need each other. Problem is they also hate each other.
I thought this was a very good hate to love story, with a strong defend my base element, which actually managed to redeem Hugh, in a way to didn't make him sugar sweet and soft, he stayed true to his character.
And Elora, she is pretty interesting in her own right, and certainly gave as good as she got, she has some deep-rooted secrets to, which I love to explore if we ever get a second book.
While this was a very good book, it misses that certain something, something, the original Kate Daniels books do have (Kate and Curran! :P ), but I do think this is very well worth your time
The narrator for this just sounds so sexy, he does pronounce some names differently than the original narrator for the series does, though

Good conclusion
Revisado: 05-27-20
A very good conclusion, where we see Vasya make hard choices, being put through the test, and facing up to things. Some heart-break, some love, some sacrifice, beautiful writing. More magic than ever. Family coming together. I think this series was very good, somehow though, the characters didn't strike a very deep cord with me, except for the animals and the kids
The narration was great and fit the story very well
