The facts are solid, while still being presented in an engaging manner. A couple of the accents were hard to understand.

Not up to par
Revisado: 12-07-21
I've enjoyed the previous books and their Native American mysticism. UFOs and castle mutilations aren't nearly so interesting to me.

Set against the glorious backdrops of Rome, Florence, and Genoa, and Naples, peopled with historical characters and filled with the details of the life of a 17th-century painter, The Passion of Artemisia is the story of Gentileschi's struggle to find love, forgiveness, and wholeness through her art.

An unknown artist brought to life
Revisado: 07-10-21
I had never heard of Artemesia Gentileschi, but this made me want to know more about her. The artworks I've found online are certainly the equal to anything from the period. The story, while fictionalized, gives plausible motivations for her art. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Historia
In the mountain village of Fox Crossing, Maine, everyone knows the story of The Fox. According to local legend, one of the town's founders crossed paths with a curious-looking fox with a distinctive white ear and paw. The unusual fox sighting not only inspired the town's name, it sparked a fantastical piece of folklore that's been passed down for generations. Some people say that whoever sees The Fox will be rewarded with good fortune, love, and happiness. Others say it's just a silly folk tale....

Believable Romance
Revisado: 12-24-20
This is not a genre I usually choose, but it was a pleasant surprise. The characters were believable, for the most part, and the setting intriguing. Ms. Cozart reads clearly, with good pacing, and makes it easy to tell who is talking.

Historia
In the tumultuous years of the Civil War, the streets of Chicago offer a woman mostly danger and ruin - unless that woman is Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton detective and a desperate widow with a knack for manipulation. Descending into undercover operations, Kate is able to infiltrate the seedy side of the city in ways her fellow detectives can't. She's a seductress, an exotic foreign medium, a rich train passenger - all depending on the day and the robber, thief, or murderer she's been assigned to nab.

Engaging Historical
Revisado: 12-18-20
Based on the real "first female detective", Kate Warne, at the Pinkerton Agency, I enjoyed this quite a lot. There are good historical references, excellent characters, and several cases to be solved. Some interesting background for the American Civil War, when the agency served an intelligence gathering function. Some liberties have been taken with the true story, but no more than usual in historical fiction.
The narrator, Stephanie Cozart, has good pacing, a pleasant voice, and clear diction. Very enjoyable to listen to, and serves the story well.

Historia
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

One of the best parallel worlds books I've ever encountered, and read by one of my favorite readers! And really...who else could they have picked to read it?
