The Sweetest Story
Revisado: 01-14-25
I loved everything about this book! Older people are portrayed as real people with feelings and interests and not as stereotypes. The inter generational friendship is heartwarming. The story is beautiful and perfectly paced. The narrators were outstanding!

Good story, terrible narration
Revisado: 11-30-24
I enjoyed the story, but I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it instead of listening to it. The narrator had an annoying sing song cadence and his voice for the little girl made me cringe.

Historia
When twenty-five-year-old Heather Russo breaks up with her boyfriend—again—she can't figure out if she's to blame or he is. Either way, she's miserable, and working at home via Zoom meetings is only making it worse. What's more, all the women in her family are struggling, including Grandmother Bonnie, who is reeling with the grief of losing her third husband. Inspired by a friend's adventurous grandson, and determined not to spend her seventieth birthday wallowing, Bonnie is ready to take extreme measures, even if it means dragging her beloved girls along by the hair.

Not for me
Revisado: 11-24-24
I did not enjoy the story very much. I found the characters overly dramatic, a little whiny, and I became frustrated with them making the same bad decisions repeatedly. I did not enjoy the narration at all. The narrator had an accent not in keeping with the characters, and there was an odd cadence to her reading.

Historia
It’s spring 1999, and 25-year-old Lia Cope and her prickly 73-year-old grandmother, Mineko, are sharing a bedroom in Curtain, Texas, the ranching town where Lia grew up and Mineko began her life as a Japanese war bride. Both women are at a turning point: Mineko, long widowed, moved in with her son and daughter-in-law after a suspicious fire destroyed the Cope family ranch house, while Lia, an architect with a promising career in Austin, has unexpectedly returned under circumstances she refuses to explain.

Very interesting story, great character development, wonderful descriptions without being too wordy. I enjoyed everything about this book and look forward to more by this author. The narrator was terrific, too!

Historia
Lizzy Moon never wanted Moon Girl Farm. Eight years ago, she left the land that nine generations of gifted healers had tended, determined to distance herself from the whispers about her family’s strange legacy. But when her beloved grandmother Althea dies, Lizzy must return and face the tragedy still hanging over the farm’s withered lavender fields: the unsolved murders of two young girls, and the cruel accusations that followed Althea to her grave.

Good Story, Poor Performance
Revisado: 09-10-23
The story was interesting with a little bit of mystery, a little romance, and a good family saga. I had difficulty listening to the breathy, sing song delivery of the narrator, however. It seemed she was constantly distressed and on the verge of tears. That would be appropriate for some parts of the story, but having the entire book delivered in that style became very tiresome for me.

Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Don’t Need to be a Gamer to Enjoy it
Revisado: 01-08-23
Being a person in my 60s, I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy a book that featured video games and their creators. But the book is so much more than that. The characters seem so real and have such depth. The story is very original and does not follow the formulaic patterns of so many books. Don’t worry if you don’t get the gaming references or slang. It is ultimately a book about people and anyone can relate to that.

Thank you so much for bringing back Lisette Lecat to narrate the book. She is the voice of Mma. Ramotswe to me! The story was like sinking into a comfortable chair and visiting with dear friends.

Best Book of the Year!
Revisado: 08-14-22
I loved this book so much! It was an engaging, original story. The author’s writing style was perfect - vivid descriptions, very well-developed characters, great pace. Each character was portrayed as a human being with both admirable traits and flaws, making good decisions and poor ones, so that you could relate to them easily. Because of this I laughed, cried, became outraged for them, and cheered for them. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, yet I didn’t want the book to end. The author also did a fantastic job narrating the book. I highly recommend this book and hope there will be more from Blair Fell.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Fantastic book!
Revisado: 08-29-21
Though set in the 1930s, the theme of prejudice against people who are different is just as relevant today. The author used wonderfully descriptive language so the reader feels fully immersed in the scenes. The characters are so vivid that I felt I knew them and cared about them. The narrator did a fantastic job of speaking in the appropriate dialect of the time. I enjoyed this book immensely and can’t wait for the sequel.

Just okay
Revisado: 07-06-21
I read the Summer of 69 and enjoyed it, but did not remember the characters or plot well enough for this continuation. Therefore, the story became a jumble of characters interacting throughout several hours following the death of the family’s matriarch. There was not enough depth to the characters or storyline to care about what happened.
