Historia
Life changed the moment the Heavens granted Benedict his Regeneration Sphere. Stepping out of the abusive cycle he'd known all his life, Benedict entered the Gilfle Academy. Getting help from his therapist, Agatha Carper, he was ready to try his new lease on life. It wasn't without its bumps and setbacks, but he wasn't going to give up on this second chance. Benedict's first bump was his new roommate, Atropos Foxglove. The young woman had a painful past that'd colored her view of life, especially when it came to men.

another wholesome story
Revisado: 02-04-25
At this point with DJS books it's just the level of sweet and wholesome that brings me joy.
I'm actually enjoying the more slow burn this time around. I do have a minor issue, however. Andrea is as amazing as always but her reading speed is just like a touch too fast, it's rare I have to lower the speed of a book but this time it was just.. too fast.

The awesome continues
Revisado: 10-06-24
Imagine my (very happy) surprise to see that Bruce went with Chris and Jess again! I've listened to almost his whole library at this point but truly love having these two narrating his books
that said after reading the book prior I kinda wish Chris gave Bran an accent, personally I felt he also had a Yorker accent but that's just me.
Can't wait for book two and now that I know these two will be narrating I'll happily put off reading for it

Qube was designed to die.... As the cheerful childhood NPC companion who helps the [Player] learn the world during the start of the game, it was only natural that the big bad would kill her at the end of the tutorial, kick-starting the [Player] on a quest for vengeance. The only thing is, no one told her that.... And this particular [Player] doesn’t like to play by the rules. Being a chaos-loving gremlin, he glitches her out of her programming loop and drags her on various adventures. They'll grapple with friendly sharktopuses, evil emperors, and what it means to be a person.

Knifes edge of frustration..just right
Revisado: 09-11-24
Honestly I despise things that work so hard to keep the status quo in books and boy howdy did this book ride that line. Thankfully things do change do move forward and paired with SBT this is a joy of a book with a lot of Wit, creativity and constantly wonderful humor. can't wait for the next book

brilliance at the final hour
Revisado: 09-10-24
legit, that wait though. holy crap Hugo lol took damn long enough but by all that's unholy this is one of the greatest books I've EVER enjoyed.
the narration is usually the real stand out but I think this is some of the best writing I've enjoyed in ages, there is good, there is great and then there is this. I felt like I just went through a freaking epic and the entire book was nearly binged without sleep
just brilliant

yikes ..
Revisado: 08-13-24
that last hour just... plainly put kinda sucked. dunno if Bruce just felt done with the series or what but that was a deeply unsatisfying end to a very good book.
miles came out with complete character flips and internal conflicts that just weren't as much in line.
but the real disservice was to Amelia. I didn't even like her character but the casual brushing off of her trail mixed with w pointless arc finale sealed that this is my first real disappointment with Bruce's books

odd narration until the end
Revisado: 07-31-24
honestly this is an edit lol. up until like the last 2 hours Jack made the odd choice to switch to a monotonous, gentle soft tone for all non-dialogue. as the climax started it was seriously getting frustrating as there was no real intonation or real emotion to it far too gentle.
then right after I finally made the review out of that frustration he FINALLY read like he had the past 8 books. dunno what happened but glad it doesn't seem a permanent change cuz it really sucked a lot from the book until the end there.

good, but oddly rushed
Revisado: 07-28-24
like no real complaints in fact I think this the most fun in the series so far.
but the final third just hit the afterburners but not in a good way. it feels like Bruce could a put the entire third into its own book or at least made this one longer yet had a cutoff point he couldn't cross. it's honestly a bit annoying since it took a lot of the tension out.

Historia
Ard is hunkering down in the mountains for the winter as the war cools with the snow. That means it’s time to practice his magic and stay out of trouble. Well… Ard might not be entirely proficient at the last one. At the very least, he’s staying away from the city and his penchant for annoying other people. Except that doesn’t work out so well when he’s forced to attend a ball held by the Brighthavens, though they’ll certainly regret forcing Ard’s attendance.

Chris and Jess just MAKE this series
Revisado: 07-13-24
honestly this is my first time really getting invested in one of Bruce's series, but between the wonderful wit, and the absolute masterclass that is probably the best narration duo in the industry, I am totally hooked.
I absolutely don't think the choices for his other series' narrators are bad, but they just aren't to my taste....here though... I NEED more. I despise that I'll have to wait however long because this series DEMANDS the way Chris ACTS aard, and Jessica's complimentary acting just... gods above it's just so good. I'll be a little uncouth saying so, but please Bruce, use these two for more series once in a while please, I truly think they compliment his writing style perfectly. brilliant stuff

Good, but rare complaint
Revisado: 07-05-24
honestly loving the story and writing and DSJ and Andy are my favorite pair.
however, maybe it's me but Andy feels like she's reading too fast. not by much, only had to go down to .9 speed but that meant I had to deal with slight warbling in the audio that kept bugging me. not huge but a rare complaint from me.
still wonderful stuff

Something decent Directed poorly
Revisado: 05-28-24
There is no two ways about it. the performance...just isn't all that good. There are moments that show it's not Faye or Tom's fault so much as clearly no real oversight or proper scene direction. The editing isn't the best either. punctuation is either ignored, tone out of place, narration speed, mixed up voices, odd pronunciations, strange cutoffs, bjust mistakes everywhere that a director should easily notice (and if you don't know yes, there are directors for audiobooks quite often) it takes a decent book and brings it down. honestly probably going to read the next books instead.
Sadly this isn't quite helped by the story, but I'm willing to admit I have bias to characters needing a clue-by-fours over half the book. some angst is poorly contrived. honestly this book feels unlike anything Annabelle or Virgil have made before least what I've read from them, and that's not exactly a good thing. definitely going to read part 2 but I'm afraid this wasn't a great first outing here especially considering their skill in other series like Master Class or the truly outstanding RHfHM.
until I hear that the performance in future books is MUCH better, I'm going to pass and I'm REALLY sad to say that.
