Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

Took so many notes!
Revisado: 03-23-21
I will have to go through this again to glean everything it offers, but I am surrounded by sticky notes with life changing and thought provoking wisdom. I can’t wait to see what comes out of our book club as we discuss it.
I can say in response to this book that I am NOT an essentialist and I can see where many of the anxiety producing situations I have lived through could have been much more productive had I lived according to the Essentialist mindset.

Historia
Why do some people succeed at change while others fail? It's the way they think! Liminal thinking is a way to create change by understanding, shaping, and reframing beliefs. What beliefs are stopping you right now? You have a choice. You can create the world you want to live in or live in a world created by others. If you are ready to start making changes, listen to this book.

Very interesting concept
Revisado: 10-14-20
A great take a way is that we need to realize that beliefs are created and tied to our identity. Due to this we tend to be subjective and convinced in a way that can shut us off from the questions and connections that could help us identify and grow through the holes in our own understanding. It is possible to stand firm while also having the humility to continue learning from various sources.

Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.

Enjoyed going back to this book I read as a kid 34 years ago.
Revisado: 09-04-19
Too many Lord of the Rings parallels to get five stars, but It took me back to when I read it in Junior High over 30 years ago. Look forward to listening to Elfstones and Wishsong to complete the review from childhood and then in to the 27 more books that make up this amazing series. Love Terry Brooks and I suggest looking up a few if his interviews on YouTube to enhance the experience if reading his books. He totally admits the LOTR ties in Sword, but says Elfstones is all him, lol. With this narrator you can listen at 1.5-1.75 speed without losing any articulation.

In ancient Israel, at the crossroads of the great trading routes, a man named Benaiah is searching for a fresh start in life. He has joined a band of soldiers led by a warlord named David, seeking to bury the past that refuses to leave him. Their ragged army is disgruntled and full of reckless men. Some are loyal to David, but others are only with him for the promise of captured wealth. While the ruthles mad King Saul marches hopelessly against the powerful Philistines, the Hebrew tribes have never been more despondent....

Historia
Who am I? My name is Christy Snow. I'm 17 and I'm about to die. I'm buried in a coffin under tons of concrete. No one knows where I am. My heart sounds like a monster with clobber feet, running straight toward me. I'm lying on my back, soaked with sweat from the hair on my head to the soles of my feet. My hands and feet won't stop shaking. Some will say that I'm not really here. Some will say I'm delusional. Some will say that I don t even exist. But who are they? I'm the one buried in a grave.

Okay, but not worth a credit
Revisado: 06-26-16
Any additional comments?
I like anything Dekker, but this one did not feel like a full story by itself (more like a sub-story of another book) Had a few nice twists and began really well. Got muddy in the middle, with an 'aha!' at the end. A few references to other books kept it interesting, but you would not have any idea of there connection unless you have read several of his other books. If I was introducing a new reader to Ted Dekker, I certainly would avoid this one until after a few other of his series.
