Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

A very fair and honest perspective
Revisado: 04-29-25
This is an interesting cross-section of our nations history. I found myself rooting for both colonist and Indians. Very well laid out with lots of interesting detail. The drama never ends great Reed.

Historia
Young Jody lives with his ma and pa on a farm in backwoods Florida. Life is hard there: cutting wood, planting fields, hauling water from a distant sinkhole. It is dangerous: wolves and bears roam the night. It’s also lonely for a young boy. One spring day, Jody’s pa kills a deer for meat. When Jody sees her spotted fawn in the brush, he convinces his father they should bring the fawn home. Thus begins a year when deer and boy are never far from each other. But the day will come when Jody must make a terrible choice between his beloved pet and his family’s survival.

Great book
Revisado: 04-04-25
This book is well written and gives a fantastic cross-section view into the life of the settlers of early Florida. It’s heartfelt and gentle but shows the hard side of life as well. It’s a very entertaining novel.

Historia
In Indigenous Continent, acclaimed historian Pekka Hämäläinen presents a sweeping counternarrative that shatters the most basic assumptions about American history. Shifting our perspective away from Jamestown, Plymouth Rock, the Revolution, and other well-trodden episodes on the conventional timeline, he depicts a sovereign world of Native nations whose members, far from helpless victims of colonial violence, dominated the continent for centuries after the first European arrivals.

Tremendous amount of information
Revisado: 03-24-25
Fantastic book laid out perfectly. This must information disseminated would be impossible to absorb if it wasn’t for the fantastic writing of the author. I can’t even imagine how much research must’ve gone into this. It is for authority. I also look at the United States history through a much different lens.

Historia
In the late 1930s, 16-year-old Billy Parham captures a she-wolf that has been marauding his family's ranch. But instead of killing it, he decides to take it back to the mountains of Mexico. With that crossing he begins an arduous and often dreamlike journey into a country where men meet ghosts and violence strikes as suddenly as heat lightning - a world where there is no order "save that which death has put there".

Historia
No discussion of great modern authors is complete without mention of Cormac McCarthy, whose rare and blazing talent makes his every work a true literary event. A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.

Revisado: 02-12-25
This book is brilliantly rich, and in the sense of true literature. The author weaves emotion, and the elements together. To create a sense of being one with the times. I truly masterful Performance.

The ending is rushed and does not complement the book.
Revisado: 01-31-25
James Lee Berg is a phenomenal writer and I love all of his stuff. I highly recommend you read all of his books. However, the ending on this book is not done well. It leaves a lot of questions and the main characters are just finished off in a hurry pace without any real understanding of how the whole thing plays out and for what reason.

The woman’s voice is extremely condescending
Revisado: 12-09-24
This is the most comprehensive book on Florida Real Estate available on audible. However, some of the questions are blatantly wrong. They ask you to calculate the depreciation of a commercial building and then give you the formula for a residential building.

Historia
Its cool gulf breezes lured him from a life of danger. Its dark undercurrents threatened to destroy him. After 10 years of living life on the edge, it was hard for Doc Ford to get that addiction to danger out of his system. But spending each day watching the sun melt into Dinkins Bay and the moon rise over the mangrove trees, cooking dinner for his beautiful neighbor, and dispensing advice to the locals over a cold beer lulled him into letting his guard down.

This must have been written in 1984
Revisado: 09-25-24
This book is good for me to reminisce about the good old days in Florida. Unfortunately, it says that it was published in 2010, which makes no sense to me. It was entertaining in the story was almost believable in a romancing the stone kind of way. However the clichés and cheese factor was through the roof. If it was written in 1984, then it was great if it was written in 2010 that something is seriously wrong.

In this best-selling novel, Patrick D. Smith tells the story of three generations of the MacIveys, a Florida family who battle the hardships of the frontier to rise from a dirt-poor Cracker life to the wealth and standing of real estate tycoons. The story opens in 1858, when Tobias MacIvey arrives in the Florida wilderness to start a new life, and ends in 1968 with Solomon MacIvey, who realizes that the land has been exploited far beyond human need.

Heartfelt and whimsical
Revisado: 09-17-24
This book is a testament to the beauty of the land unfortunately, it takes these types of occurrences for us to understand what a precious gift we had in Florida and lost. The storyline is brilliant and it makes me feel sad and exhilarated.
