look I think that The Dragonbone Chair and the sequels were fantastic. this delve into virtual reality didn't really come together until the very end for me... And it just dragged on and on and on. I never give a crappy review, But this entire story to me was nonsensical and did not appeal to my genrecentric needs as I had hoped it would reading the summary, and knowing who wrote it.

Sorry, Tad. you lost me on this one. I've already spent the credits on the two following books in the sequel and can't get my credits back, or I would.

I gave it a shot. as a former Homicide detective, I liked the Idea of a black Former FBI Agent fallen from grace, only to become the Sheriff of a small county where racism is rampant, and a killer is on the loose. Someone into cozy police crime yarns might like it, or appreciate it more. For me... the reveal was too soon, and sub plots not quite plotty enough. The protag is FAIR and as balanced as can be, but it fell flat. Good enough read (or in this case, listen) and i give it 3.75 stars.

You can always count on Jack Carr to write a very thrilling roller coaster ride with his indomitable character, James Reece. And Ray Porter is Da'man when it comes to Narration. The terminalist series for me is much better to listen to then to actually read... thanks to Rays incrediblebtalent.

For me however, as a big fan of Jack Carr, and especially now that Jack is a world famous number one bestseller, I fear the pressure of getting a book out every year is "stressing" on the storytelling. The extreme violence, incredible food and wine detail, (as well as the "Mil-Spec" detail of weapons and gear to satiate us veterans), and story premise, including James's dealing with his inner demons, are starting to feel like old hat. I would have to say that the first three books are his best work, but now James Reece is starting to take on a "Grey Man" quality. (another great series by Mark Greeney and if you read it, you'll understand what I mean).

Of course you should still read it! It's Jack Carr! I'm only saying that it feels like he has gotten caught up in the Traditional Publishing grinder, and the honeymoon of having something new, fresh, and different has ended.

The Terminal List (Book 1) was new and very different. Redacting certain things that the Pentagon felt we're still too secret to share, was just freaking brilliant. The pain and anguish of James Reece relayed through the pages was palpable to anyone with a soul. Now, we are seven books in. It will be interesting to see how book eight turns out.

I am a huge Jack Carr fan and I will be pre-ordering the next James Reece Autographed hardcover with the bullet hole through the first page. ( and i'm still trying to figure out a way to comshaw one of those custom-pelican case additions...Go Navy!) 🫡

Before Jack Carr's rise to stardom with his USN SEAL revenge Thriller "The Terminal List" there was this book, the incredibly real-feeling espionage/manhunt- The Kill List. Mr. Forscyth has been writting incredible thrillers since Jack Carr and I were kids (hes a hero author of us both)... and as an author, we have big shoes to fill when you have the likes of Day of the Jackyl and Dogs of War out there... stunning and oh so realistic thrillers with enough MILSPEC detail to keep it authentic, but not overbearing. This is a great read, or listen, especially if you want to be immersed in the action and have the story give you the sense that the author has melded a thick line of truth through his storytelling (Like Jack, Clancy, me, lol). I forgot how GOOD (and currebt) Kill List really is. 5 solid stars.

Well... people don't write like this any more. This TOC (Turn of the Century, as in "1901") story delves deep into the adventures of an orphan who's father was an Irishman (a soldier fighting for the British) and a Punjab woman. The kid's street wit and positive attitude make him lots of friends who play a hand in getting him educated, and into manhood. So much of the story is when Kim is just a little street rat, but then as he gets older the story jumps and feels loose and inconsistent. Ends kind of abrupt as well. If that's a spolier- get over it, the book is 125 years old! As a writer, I find it necessary to read "classics", as there is always something to learn. It's worth a listen, however, especially if you're a student t of literature.

Pay attention.

This is such a different kind of thriller with a TON of detail, and as you'll hear, a two-faceated story. it took me a bit to get into, but because Jack Carr recommended, I stuck it out. and it was worth it, although it is kind of a cliff hangar. Book 2 has to be in the works. Scott Brick is the man.

So as a writer of fiction myself I have. Please admired and studied the works of writers like LaCarre', Cussler, Patterson, and of course Nelson Demille.

My modern favs are Jack Carr, Mark Greaney.and Brad Thor... and now... Alex DeMille and his dad who team up to create a series that goes toe to toe with the rest.

Protags Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor are quickly becoming my favorite Dynamic Duo, working in a more grounded and authentic feeling storyline. It all just feels beleiveable. and Scott Brick? Yeah. He's the man!

These books, Blood Lines and The Deserter are must haves in your thriller library, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that Maggie gets to take the front seat in the next story! Five SOLID stars! (Anyone who gave it less is a wanna be armchair warrior... fact).

I was introduced to reading with the Hobbit and later, LOR and that led to fantasy... then, a fellow sailor (USN) who has become Sov-Kela, introduced me to C.J.Cherryh... and I was hooked. The Faded Sun is the master class in Sci-fi writing and now that it is in audiobook (2018), I recommend it to anyone who loves Sci-fi, Space Opera, World building, and emotional, intense storytelling. CJ Cherryh is truly the Shépan of Sci-fi, and a must listen. the Narrator is excellent and brings the characters to life in your minds eye, and drags you through The Dark for one wild ride with the Mri.

(twilight zone theme in the background). Imagine a world that goes to war over abortion rights against conservatives and their "right to life" ideals. And the abortionists win. what you have is the premise of this story, unwound, where if you get sick of your miabehaved under 18 child, you can sign a contract with the government to just have the child "unwound". Oh! They don't just throw the kid in a bin or cremate them. They harvest every single body part that kid. Had and put it down on the market to help other people. This is the story of a few of these kids who just aren't going to have it and their fight for survival.

I don't think anyone could listen to this book and not think about the current U.S. state of affairs regarding the sexualization of children and govt interference with parenting.

The narrator in this story had my head lolling when when the story narrative was being read. But the premise of the story, to me anyway, was both disturbing and alarming. I still think it's worth a listen, but if you are good at visualizing, brace yourself for the chapters near the end where you get to be part of an unwind process through the eyes of adolescent.
