An Epic Sci Fi Tale..Outstanding!
Revisado: 09-14-23
I just finished listening to the conclusion of The Expanse series. The plot, characters, presentation by Corey and Mays, and believable concertedly work together that draws the listener into each character's role. I was there as my own personality was subsumed by the story.
A great epic tale describing future possibilities and people struggling to retain and fit their fragile humanness together as their universe grows, struggles, stumbles and emerge victorious.

WOW! Simply just wow!
Revisado: 09-14-23
I have followed DeMille's work for many years. Before I finished Word of Honor I held The Charm School as his best novel. The Deserter was also placed on my list with Charm School. IMO, Word of Honor blows away all of DeMille's previous works I have read. This book is indeed am examination of the Vietnam era; however, it also a comprehensive examination of human emotions, traits, and characteristics of what it means to be "human."
I am glad I missed reading Word of Honor many years ago as I often reread enjoyable novels and have read Charm School several times over the years. Now I have another outstanding work by DeMille to enjoy again during those times I am searching for something new to consume.

Completely Awesome, except for one minor thing
Revisado: 06-12-16
If you could sum up The City of Mirrors in three words, what would they be?
Riveting Compelling Spellbinding
What other book might you compare The City of Mirrors to and why?
Stephen King's The Stand--similar theme of near extinction, heroes, villains, and happy ending. Also Robert McCammon's Swan Song, same thing, and I enjoyed it much more than The Stand.
Which scene was your favorite?
Too many to chose from--probably when Peter realized the virals were back and going to attack the compound
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end when the professor asked Amy to tell him the story
Any additional comments?
The minor thing of disappointment for me was finishing the read. This is one of those stories that you wished to be longer, but Cronin ended it well. I'll put the Passage Trilogy in the top three on my favorite book list, but don't ask me to name others, because I would have a hard time thinking of anything even close at the moment. Swan Song would most likely be one. Cronin's ability to create a story and his prose are nothing short of masterful and Brick as the narrator was a very wise choice. However, the story stands on its own. Moreover, he makes it believable and plausible. Not much else to say, except this one will be hard to beat for me.

They are coming. The countdown has begun. First visible only as blips on a telescope image, the discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter's orbit immediately sets humanity on edge. NASA doesn't even bother to deny the alien ships' existence. The popular Astral space app (broadcasting from the far side of the moon and accessible by anyone with Internet) has already shown the populace what is coming.

Whoa!
Revisado: 04-04-16
Where does Invasion rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Well, maybe third. First would be The Crosing trilogy, but I haven't listened to book 3. It's supposed to be out in May. Second would be the Fear trilogy. Fear the Sky, etc.
What other book might you compare Invasion to and why?
Fear the Sky trilogy as it is alien invasion though this first book seems focused entirely on one family getting to their end of the world bunker.
Which scene was your favorite?
Too many. They are all good. And to describe any specifics would give away too. I have to those who haven't heard the book yet.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Prepare for doom and the end of the world!
Any additional comments?
Great plot. Great character development. Plenty of action. Fast paced. Great narration. My only problem is each of the books in the trilogy are only about 9 hours long. I like trilogies where each book is 15 to 20 hours long.

Al Franken reveals the alarming story of how Bush (barely) beat Kerry with his campaign of "fear, smear, and queers", and then claimed a nonexistent mandate; Republicans decided that Terri Schiavo would make "a great political issue"; Conservatives sought to undermine Social Security by using a strategy borrowed from...Vladimir Lenin; and more.

Great listen. I truly enjoy Al's books and especially his narrations. I'd like to know when he developed the last chapter. Prescient?
