Historia
Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote...and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Incredible

Narration was gripping, never cringey. Story and King’s writing was masterful. What a fun way to experience the story for the first time having not yet seen the movie. A+

Once upon a time, a no-frills J.Crew rollneck sweater held an almost mystical power—or at least it felt that way. The story of J.Crew is the story of the original “lifestyle brand,” whose evolution charts a sea change in the way we dress, the way we shop, and who we aspire to be over the past four decades—all told through iconic clothes and the most riveting characters imaginable.

Great writing, slightly too long

Very much enjoyed the exhaustive reporting and the author had an impressive writing style. Performance very passable. Would have loved it had they cut 2-4 hours.

I’ve never been so moved by an audiobook. Sally Field’s writing is incredible, and surprising. What was not surprising was that her performance is unforgettable. Give her a third Oscar, somehow, for this.

Ben Smith’s writing is good but there are some significant lulls. And the narrator’s cadence was grating, seemingly uninterested. Did enjoy the history, particularly of gawker.

Phenomenal.

I loved everything about this including the appendices at the end that evidenced how this labor of love and compulsion truly did end in apprehension and capture. Have never felt particularly drawn to true crime, but McNamara’s writing is as incredible as her fans have suggested.

In You'll Grow Out of It, Jessi Klein offers - through an incisive collection of real-life stories - a relentlessly funny yet poignant take on a variety of topics she has experienced along her strange journey to womanhood and beyond. These include her "transformation from Pippi Longstocking-esque tomboy to are-you-a-lesbian-or-what tom man", attempting to find watchable porn, and identifying the difference between being called "ma'am" and "miss" (" miss sounds like you weigh 99 pounds").

Excellent impressive journalism. I found the first third about the original Sacklers a bit boring even if well written and performed. But the rest, the modern day story of Oxy — fascinating

Historia
On a cool, overcast afternoon in April 2016, a salacious tip arrived at the L.A. Times that reporter Paul Pringle thought should have taken, at most, a few weeks to check out: a drug overdose at a fancy hotel involving one of the University of Southern California’s shiniest stars—Dr. Carmen Puliafito, the head of the prestigious medical school. Pringle, who’d long done battle with USC and its almost impenetrable culture of silence, knew reporting the story wouldn’t be a walk in the park. USC is the largest private employer in the city of L.A., and it casts a long shadow.

SELF INDULGENT
Revisado: 03-10-23
wow the author is annoying! Smarmy, self absorbed, the story really shouldn’t have been all about him. It seems almost impossible to have taken such an interesting investigation into USC/LA politics and reduce it down to, in the words of another reviewer, petty workplace squabbles. And so sanctimonious! Made me roll my eyes often. Would recommend passing.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Not for me
Revisado: 12-01-22
No knock on the performances, Jennifer beals in particular was great. But I found the writing cheesy and the characters one dimensional. Often it felt like they just said the same things over and over in different ways and the plot was dull.
