Historia
Doris Grandfelt, an employee at an accounting firm, was brutally stabbed to death . . . but nobody knew exactly where the crime took place. Her body was found the next night, dumped among a dense thicket of trees along the edge of an urban park, eight miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota. Despite her twin sister Lara Grandfelt’s persistent calls to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the killer was never found.

Great story but no ending
Revisado: 04-07-25
I have never written a review before, but I wanted to address the comments about the narrator. After so many years of having Richard Ferrone as the voice of Lucas it’s difficult to adjust to a new narrator. But Robert Petkoff has been one of my favorite narrators and he does an excellent job. So have patience and give him a chance. I think you will be glad that you did.

Bad accents
Revisado: 02-17-22
The storyline is good but I could not finish listening to the book because of the accents used by the narrator. When she wasn’t trying to do accents she did an excellent job, but her French accents were so far over the top I found it annoying

It will take you to a different world
Revisado: 04-22-13
The characters come to life in this story. McCammon paints a scene so vividly with his words, that you will shudder in disgust , hold your breath in suspense, and laugh out loud. My husband and I listen to books together, and we sat up late several nights until we couldn't stay awake. Helping the story come to life is the narration. Edoardo Ballerini is spot on here. His voices, his pacing....perfection

Suspense!
Revisado: 01-29-13
So many books are advertised as being suspenseful, or thrillers, but do not deliver on that promise. This book does. My husband and I listen together, and we sat up late several nights glued to our Kindle waiting to see what would happen. Dick Hill's performance is outstanding. If you enjoy action books, this one is highly recommended

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Better than the book alone
Revisado: 10-17-12
Almost all books are "better than the movie". It's just the way it is. Invariably one of your favorite parts will be left out, whole characters left out. The Water for Elephants movie was good...very good in fact, but not nearly as good as the book. The magiic I felt when reading the book didn't translate to the big screen. I was disappointed as this is one of my favorite books.
Then Amazon came out with the "if you own the book get the audio book for a reduced price" deal. I thought, "Why I would want to do that???"...I have read the book three times, and seen the movie several times as well. THEN, I listened to the sample and I was enthralled. Jacob at 90 (or 93) is just perfect. The raspy voice, the crochety attitude, it all works so well. And young Jacob...let me just say he makes the character come to life.
No matter how many times you have read this book or seen the movie, THIS book was made to be listened to. Treat yourself to this one. You won't regret it.

You can't go wrong with a Longmire book
Revisado: 09-13-12
With a Longmire book you expect great writing, humor and a good mystery. It's all here, with the addition of the poignancy of Walt's daughter being injured. George Guidall's narration is once again perfect.

Get ready to enjoy
Revisado: 09-12-12
If you could sum up Death Masks in three words, what would they be?
fabulously fun fantasy
What was one of the most memorable moments of Death Masks?
Harry and Susan at the laundromat...I loved Susan tossing the machines around.
What does James Marsters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
James brings depth to each of the characters. He has a voice for each character, and NEVER mixes them up. His reading of this book is not only good, it's great. I would give him 10 stars if I could.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes...it's hard to stop, but I always looked forward to getting back to it.
Any additional comments?
This was the first of the Dresden Files I have listened to. It was so good I bought all the rest.
