Historia
A canny young woman is struggling to survive by perpetrating various levels of mostly harmless fraud. On a rainy April morning, she is reading auras at Spiritual Palms when Susan Burke walks in. A keen observer of human behavior, our unnamed narrator immediately diagnoses beautiful, rich Susan as an unhappy woman eager to give her lovely life a drama injection. However, when the "psychic" visits the eerie Victorian home that has been the source of Susan’s terror and grief, she realizes she may not have to pretend to believe in ghosts anymore.

Feels very unfinished
Revisado: 01-30-25
I wish it were more clear that this is a short story. Wouldn’t have purchased because it is essentially the same cost as a full length book and it feels like it just stops before the story is told. Finished in one listen and thought something was wrong with the app.

Historia
DI Rob Marshall is stuck in Gartcosh, leading the new Behavioural Sciences Unit – a staff of one and a third – where he’s executing a fruitless hunt, profiling every single murder in Scotland just in case they’re serial cases. But when a young Peebles woman’s body is discovered in Neidpath Tunnel, disused since the sixties, Marshall is called in to consult on a case on his old home turf. Paired up with his replacement, a cop who’s disinterested in the work, Marshall must tread a line between helping and not jumping to conclusions.

Great concept but loses its punch…
Revisado: 08-24-24
I really thought this was going to be powerful and the reviews seem to say so. Maybe it’s just me but after the first couple of short chapters it becomes fairly obvious… money isn’t everything, buying more stuff doesn’t make you happy… guess I was looking for something more substantial.

A painful history with an inspiring perspective.
Revisado: 06-12-23
This story carries so much trauma and pain. It’s infuriating to relive the trauma done to native Americans and to consider the role of churches in this horror. But Chief Joseph’s ability to come a place of forgiveness is so powerful. The concept of reconciliation is inspiring and his ability to have hope should give us all a reason to have hope.
This is an easy read and one I highly recommend.

Good book but a lot going on…
Revisado: 05-28-23
I really like the author and the narrator. Love the characters too. This one really had a lot going on and if it wasn’t part of a series I’d say it needed to be a bit longer to tie up some story lines. There were also maybe too many moments of slightly implausible behaviors. But it is a series I’m glad I found!

Detective Ali Greenberg knows that this is not the best case for her - not with her history, but she has to get back to work at some point. Edna is worried about the new residents at the boardinghouse. She knows Mary would turn in her grave if she knew the kinds of people her son was letting in. And then there is someone else. Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

Historia
Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.
