Historia
Magic has two immutable rules - every spell requires a sacrifice, and every curse can be broken. Amira Brindonu is a sorceress turned assassin, bound in a curse that forces her to obey her father, even to the point of high treason. When he orders her to kill the future emperor, she fails, but discovers a secret that could bring the whole of the empire to its knees. The archduke is stricken by a curse that could sentence him and his people to damnation, but Amira could be the only key to breaking it.

Good story, terrible narration
Revisado: 08-30-24
The story was good. A little predictable but enjoyable. I couldn’t stand the narration. Clearly the author couldn’t afford to hire a narrator since she narrated it herself. She had zero emotion when reading. One would think narrating your own book you’d have a better grasp on the emotions your characters are expressing, but one would be wrong.

Historia
Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster. Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them.

Excellent twists that kept me guessing!
Revisado: 06-01-24
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would! Highly recommend! The beginning was good, kept me engaged. As information started coming out little by little it drew me into the story. There were several twists and turns that made me really question what I thought was actually going on. And the ending was a huge build up. Very well done mystery!!

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Great story, awful narration
Revisado: 10-27-23
The story was great, twists and turns that kept me reading. The narrator was awful. Always speaking in a whisper and never differentiating between characters’ voices. So many times I couldn’t tell who was talking because every character sounds the same.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Excellent story, underwhelming narration
Revisado: 01-10-21
The story is incredible, and I would have given performance a 5/5 if it was only Michael Kramer (who I think is a remarkable voice actor), but Kate Reading falls really, really short. Her cadence literally never changed while she narrates, every sentence ends exactly the same which may sound like nit picking, but it’s legitimately distracting and ultimately takes away from the experience. If I could nuance it, Michael Kramer gets 5 stars, Kate Reading gets 2.
