Historia
Madness Overrated explores the mad dynamics of the consumption-based, growth-driven world and its undeniably powerful role in affecting virtually every aspect of our lives and reshaping our existence as humans. The book presents deep-reaching observations on the human mind as it undergoes various changes while adapting to everything imposed onto it by society in the name of progress, productivity, and growth. The author encourages the listeners to ask themselves honest questions about the mad lives we live and thereby rediscover our natural curiosity to look inquisitively behind the facades.

Insightful, Thought provoking, A GREAT READ
Revisado: 12-04-23
This is not a book you can skim through or read absent-mindedly. , There is no fluff just to make it lengthier, It is thought-provoking, and intense without being complicated or vague. An intriguing critique of modernity, without the tone of anger and moral superiority you find in similar books.
A freedom manifesto, a call for reason and taking back our human dignity and power, no agendas, no demonization of certain groups or ideologies, a sanity wake-up call we all need no matter who/ where
I highly recommend this book and I look forward to seeing more work from this talented philosopher/ writer
Thank you

Something different
Revisado: 10-22-13
I really did enjoy the book, even though it's kind of a new genre for me ... what i liked most about it is that it took me away from everyday life to a new mysterious existence .... it's also challenging in some aspects ... as it did challenge many of my firmly held beliefs ...
one thing i know for sure ... i will never look at a "veiled" woman the same way again ... which is quite cool really

Historia
Trauma does not just happen to a few unlucky people; it is the bedrock of our psychology. Death and illness touch us all, but even the everyday sufferings of loneliness and fear are traumatic. In The Trauma of Everyday Life renowned psychiatrist and author of Thoughts Without a Thinker, Mark Epstein uncovers the transformational potential of trauma, revealing how it can be used for the mind's own development. Western psychology teaches that if we understand the cause of trauma, we might move past it while many drawn to Eastern practices see meditation as a means of rising above, or distancing themselves from, their most difficult emotions.

This is what i call a GREAT book
Revisado: 10-04-13
If you must read one book on pain, suffering ..etc then let it be this one ...
But let me first clarify that this is a Buddhist book filled with the teachings of the Buddha ...it is also filled with information about the life of the Buddha, but that usually comes with a purpose ...
I cannot praise this book enough ... as it helped me finally OPEN my eyes to reality instead of dreaming away with all the self-help junk i have read throughout the years ..
An insightful ... sobering ... well written book
note: i didn't like the narration at all ...

Most of us live in a constant state of fear - of our past, of illness and aging and death, and of losing the things we treasure most. But it doesn't have to be this way, promises Zen master and Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh. Drawing on a lifetime of mindfulness in action, Thich Nhat Hanh shows us how to use the practice of living in the present to acknowledge and embrace our fears, recognize their origins, and render them powerless. The world-renowned Zen teacher guides us through practical exercises for transforming fear into clarity.

A great great book
Revisado: 10-04-13
First let me clarify that this is a Buddhist book filled with the teachings of the Buddha ... i am not a Buddhist yet i found it extremely helpful ... it's kind of a next step after one digs deep into one's self (introspection work) ... it helps with getting over the pain and suffering (after being acknowledged and experienced that is )
I found it much more "REAL" than the self -help books that usually left me lost and frustrated ... i highly recommended
note: the narration was excellent

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Couldn't get myself to finish it
Revisado: 09-03-12
I love books about travelling and finding one's self ... i love books about achieving one's childhood dreams ... i just don't think this book is one of them ... i guess unless you are a sailor who is interested in the subject of sailing this book would seem too far off ... i hardly ever put a book down ... only the one's i cannot stomach ... i wasn't able to go through this audio book ... not because it was bad or anything ... just not for me ...
Lately i am having a hard time finding good travelling and adventure books on audible ... this and "all over the map" which was about a whining single woman dying to find a man and is not REALLY interested in travelling as much as she would like us to think ( i reviewd this book earlier) would top my list of the worst books of the month ...
sorry for being so harsh

A travelling book?
Revisado: 08-31-12
The book is amusing and won't make you bored but i doubt it has anything to do with travelling or discovering one's self ... it's a book about how the author is so desperate to find a man and a describtion of her affairs ... there is no information about the places she goes to ... nothing about her journey of self discovery (which was non existant) ... she is a woman who can afford travel ... very stubborn and doesn't seem to want to learn from her mistakes ... and keeps going on and on about men ... she is so dependant on men for someone who describes herself as a feminist ...
i found in some parts of the book that she had no respect for "certain" cultures ... for example she was harrassed by a man in egypt .. so she speaks ill of muslims and egyptian men and culture ... but then she was raped in samoa ... yet she considers this to be a matter that isn't related to the country and the people (which is true)... this "seasoned" traveller strikes me as the "average" American TOURSIT (no offense intended)
I am someone who loves to travel and i consider my self foot loose ... so i was really angered discovering that she travels because it's what she does (even though she doesn't say it plainly) ... all she wants is to get married and have children ... very strange for someone who keeps reminding us - because we tend to forget - that she is super adventerous and strong ...
In a travel book i really missed the travel part ... other than the food and men the whole travel thing is nearly non - existant ...
i don't want to be harsh ... but don't bother with her book ...

Historia
On Getting Unstuck, Pema Chodron introduces a rare Tibetan teaching she received from her teacher, Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche, and one that has become critical to her practice. Here, she unveils the mystery of an ineffable quality; a "pre-emotional" feeling that arises in us, brings us discomfort, and causes us to react by escaping the discomfort, often with harmful habits. With Getting Unstuck, she offers us a first look at "both the itch and the scratch": what Tibetan Buddhists call shenpa.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-26-12
This was my first encounter with Pema Chodorn and due to her reputation i was extremely excited .... i thought i would find some answers ... some wisdom ... but far from it ... i found this speech to be mediocre to say the least ... i am saying it was useless or a waste of time and money - it's not- it's just not that useful ... and i have to strongly disagree with all the glowing reviews of this "speech" ...
This book also lead me to read about Pema's master and i must admit i was shocked ... i am sure this has nothing to do with the speech or her books but still i was puzzled ...
