Historia
Betty Bard MacDonald (1907 - 1958), the best-selling author of The Egg and I and the classic Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle children's books, burst onto the literary scene shortly after the end of World War II. Readers embraced her memoir of her years as a young bride operating a chicken ranch on Washington's Olympic Peninsula, and The Egg and I sold its first million copies in less than a year.

All the background I wanted
Revisado: 10-04-21
I have been a fan of Betty McDonald for the past 35 years and have read all four of her autobiographies multiple times. My mother-in-law introduced my my husband and me to the Egg and I, and we laughed and laughed at her amusing writing. As well, we fell in love with her detailed descriptions and her fun analogies. I knew she died fairly young but not much more. Looking for Betty MacDonald filled in all the missing pieces to the puzzle for me. What I appreciate is that, although the author does spell out many realities and real life circumstances, some of which aren’t that flattering, these things do not move Betty down any rungs on the ladder for me. Her sense of humor is hilarious and her sense of the absurd brings a very funny perspective to life. It was fun to hear about the real names of people and to put into context all the moving around she did, along with her family. I really enjoyed listening to the author whose interest exceeds my own!
