I started the series looking for a new cozy mystery series.
Revisado: 01-02-25
This was not the best book in the series. The mystery was weak and the reason for murder made no sense. The real story is the relationships with the characters and how they interact and support each other.

Not the author's best
Revisado: 05-19-23
The story was not fully developed to it's potential. It relies a lot on the reader to fill in gaps and keeps adding characters rather than giving insight into the main characters.

Lighthearted and clean regency romance

Clean regency romance. Narrator was enjoyable. The story was a bit unrealistic and not fully fleshed out.

Story is ok, terrible narrator's.

I thought the first narrator was bad because everyone sounded like on obnoxious teens, however, the second narrator goes between making the characters sound like cartoons characters.

Welcome to Hemlock Cove, where the town is magically rebranded - but real witches aren't necessarily welcome. That makes things hard for the Winchester witches - including local newspaper reporter Bay. She's got a persnickety family - wait until you met Aunt Tillie - and a penchant for stumbling across trouble.

Not the author's best work
Revisado: 01-03-23
I started out with the author's 2 Broomsticks Series. If I had started with this one, I would have quit. This book comes off as very juvenile and one note other than Aunt Tilly. Part of the issue is the narrator who makes it sound worse than it is. Everyone sounds whiney and the accents for the different characters are terrible. I know the 2 Broomsticks story is later so the author must get better with experience and with a different narrator.

I have read and loved many of this author's books but this didn't have the same power to draw me in. I was an outsider rather than feeling like the characters were best friends. It was clean and something I could listen to in the car with my kids there but not something I would listen to again.
As other reviews have noted, there were more christian references than her other books but I didn't feel she was preaching at me like some authors that I quit listening to or reading due to the fact that their books became more preaching than story.

Not my favorite Lisa Gardner book
Revisado: 08-18-22
Narrator was fine, nothing spectacular and no accents despite the book calling for them. As a domestic violence survivor, parts of this book resonated with me, however, overall I found the book too gruesome and a bit depressing. Yes the good guys win in the end but the cops had no clue and the wife had to take him down. The audio was also difficult to follow as it would switch so quickly between characters that it would take a couple of minutes before I realized what was going on and whose perspective the book was following for that section. More character development would have helped to become more involved in the book. It definitely does not read as the first book in a series as the person who is supposed to be the main character in the series has a very minor role in this book.

Excellent WW2 story from a unique perspective
Revisado: 08-15-22
It is rare to read a WW2 story where there is so little death, however, that did not take away from the tension. While the story was well written, the details about living under Nazi occupation in Paris were limited. Adding more information about life under Nazi occupation would have increased the tension in the book. Characters are well written. Some of the reviews said it was too churchy, I did not find this so. It stated that they went to church and addressed people shunning others at church but it did not preach at the reader.

Historia
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they’ve failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore. But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up.
