With ribald humor, wit, and incredible insight, Alan seamlessly moves back and forth in time, integrating stories from his childhood in Scotland and his experiences today as the celebrated actor of film, television, and stage. At times suspenseful, at times deeply moving, but always incredibly brave and honest, Not My Father's Son is a powerful story of embracing the best aspects of the past and triumphantly pushing the darkness aside.

You better keep Eli Gold on memory
Revisado: 04-08-15
I like Alan Cumming as Eli Gold (The Good Wife), but this memoir book is awful. We should empathize with the abuse he suffered as a kid, but the bitter tone of the book makes it very hard to enjoy.

It's hard to choose the best quote
Revisado: 02-11-15
Even if you don't like audiobooks this is one I recommend. Super narration of the audiobook by Christian Rodska, it seems that Sir Winston Churchill himself is telling the history. It's hard to pick the best quote from this book.
Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few
or maybe
We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.
or else
I would say to the House as I said to those who have joined this government: I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering.

Historia
Military criminal investigator John Puller is drawn closer to home when his aunt is found dead in her house in Paradise, Florida. The local police have ruled the death as an accident, but Puller finds evidence to suggest that she may well have been murdered. On the surface the town lives up to its name, but as Puller digs deeper he realises that this town and its inhabitants are more akin to Hell than Paradise. His belief is confirmed as evidence of strange and inexplicable events come to light.

David Baldacci in his worst moment until now
Revisado: 03-04-13
What would have made The Forgotten: John Puller, Book 2 better?
I simple wouldn't write it. It seems in some moments that Baldacci is outsourcing his writing.
Would you ever listen to anything by David Baldacci again?
I suppose so. I like his books, but this one was awful.
What about Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s performance did you like?
They are very good narrators and saved the book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
I hope Baldacci returns to being himself. The characters of this books are so shallow I don't have any empathy with them.

A nice book but not complete in itself

If you could sum up Semper Fi in three words, what would they be?
Nice but incomplete
Would you be willing to try another book from W. E. B. Griffin? Why or why not?
yes, I guess so, since without reading the other books of the series you get an unfinished history.
Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He's a very good narrator
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No. But the Pearl Harbor and Philippines parts are very interesting

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

Great book and outstanding narration
Revisado: 09-21-12
Where does Angela's Ashes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's one of the best Audiobooks I've read at Audible.com
What other book might you compare Angela's Ashes to and why?
Its kind unique in it's details and depiction of the 40's in Ireland. But I think Jessica, from Bryce Courtenay is as powerful as this.
Which character – as performed by Frank McCourt – was your favorite?
I think Frank McCourt is the center of the book and the best character.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I think the actual tagline is good: "The Hopes of a Mother. The Dreams of a Father. The Fate of a Child."
