Great Performance but Terrible Romance

What disappointed you about Not Quite a Husband?

The heroine was very intelligent yet so immature, arrogant and childish that it ruin the story. She actually came off as mean and selfish a great deal of the time. Also, the author seem to put more effort into displaying her knowledge of the time and geography that the romance was secondary at best. I loved the hero but wished he had more backbone.

I worked hard at finishing the story because the narrator was excellent. My impatience with the heroine reached its limit though.

Great Story Ruined by Narrator

What did you like best about Duke of Midnight? What did you like least?

The duke more than anything. I loved his strong character and protectiveness.

What other book might you compare Duke of Midnight to and why?

I really cannot think of one off hand.

Would you be willing to try another one of Claudia Harris’s performances?

NO!

Do you think Duke of Midnight needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No - the book Darling Beast which is the next in the series will take care of that.

I love, love, love the Maiden Lane series. Unfortunately the last couple have had very poor narrators and I don't think I can go through that anymore. I do hope Darling Beast comes out with a good narrator - I just can't make myself listen to another great story butchered by a poor narrator - so sad. I wish the powers that be would respect the impact narrators make on a book - they can make it or break it!

Very Wordy

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't really know. Maybe someone with lots of patience. The concept of the story was very good, however it was so wordy that it became so frustrating that I had to stop about half way through. I kept falling asleep and when I woke up, I hadn't really missed anything.

What could Christina Brooke have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Less description of what is going on inside the main characters mind. It was the same thing only worded a little differently and done over and over and over again.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Wiley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is very, very good. She is the main reason I purchased the book.

Frustration!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. The frustration I felt with the narrator pretty much ruined it.

What other book might you compare Her Sudden Groom to and why?

Not sure

How did the narrator detract from the book?

At first I thought she might be OK...... However as the book went on, she got more and more monotone and by the last half of the book she sounded totally bored.

Could you see Her Sudden Groom being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

There are so many audiobooks I would like to get, but find myself very hesitant if I don't know the narrator already. This one has some Amazon reviews but that does not help determine if the narrator is any good. The narrator can make or break the whole story.

Would you consider the audio edition of How to Romance a Rake to be better than the print version?

I did not read the printed version but the audio version is wonderful. Enough humor and intrigue to keep me hooked even though I should have been do something other than listening to a book. I just couldn't stop listening to it. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

What other book might you compare How to Romance a Rake to and why?

Maybe the historical romances by Eloisa James or Julie Garwood because it has steamy romance, humor, and intrigue.

What does Anne Flosnik bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She was perfect - all of the different voices and emotions were obvious and it was easy to really "feel" the different characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES

It was so nice to read a romance where the heroine isn't too stubborn and with a "prim and way too proper" attitude. Well worth the money and credit - I want to listen to it all over again!

Hunter - he was great and the only one in the whole story with any common sense.

Yes - because I have read some of her other books and liked them.
